Shutting your curtains/shutters stops heat loss as effective as having double glazing.

Perhaps I'm just too used to living in old houses without double-glazing or cavity insulation but have always shut the curtains to keep the heat in - doesn't need a "special survey" to tell me that!

Not to mention feckin dark. Roll shutters are common here in Germany and I have them on all my windows, when they are closed it is pitch black inside.

As it is for everyone in the uk past 5.00pm this time of year.

I just put the lights on, they are a bit like candles.

What an astounding invention it would have been, with enormous financial implications, if the results had shown that closing curtains allowed more heat to escape. A revolution in the design of fridges, refrigerated lorries, car radiators, etc., much less energy used for air conditioning systems. Sadly not to be

They of course would be the very people who would know about that, so no point in saying they would not.

Can't believe that anyone would need to be told about that as though it is an astounding revelation!

Same in Spain (called persianas). Which is just as well as the double glazing units are shyte. Whilst that may not be an issue in the warmer regions, up in the mountains its bloody freezing.

Good for keeping out the heat in the summer too, so no need for air conditioning either.
