Taxi overcharging
I got a black cab from the airport back to my flat the other month and it cost £25 quid, now I just got one and it cost £13 quid.
Both times it was the same time of day and light traffic.
So I asked the 2nd Taxi driver how come it was £25 quid last time?
He said "Was it a Paki?"
"Yes it was" I said.
"Unbelievable" he replied wearily.
So that is the last time I get in a Taxi with a Driver whose origin is from Pakistan!
BTW I did think it a bit steep, but I just moved back to the UK and it was the first time I have done that trip in years so gave the Driver the benefit of the doubt.

More s**te from TDW!
I use black cabs every weekday and the racial origin has NO bearing on the fare that I pay. The only issue I have ever had was some idiot (white) who did a U turn and drove straight into a wall.

I arrived at my local train station last Thursday - cab on the rank £30 to my door, quick phone call to a local cab company and "£20".
Turns out (well how it was explained to me) that they have to pay a fee for picking up off the station rank (or so they told me). Anyhow cab arrived, dropped off 5 really hot girls all going on holiday and shouted "taxi for Mr Gene Hunt" so I wandered over and then got in... and little did I realise I'd entered the local BNP recruiting vehicle
For the next 20 miles all I had was "it's those immigrants, coming over here undercutting all the local taxi companies, putting us out of business and then putting their costs up and ripping off the customers"

Unfortunately I have no choice living in Huddistan. In 10+ years of using taxis I have only ever seen 2 white taxi drivers. On the plus side they do get you home but there is a running joke round here that all the Taxis are fitted with a 'special button'.

How did you know he was from Pakistan and not India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Malaysia, Mauritius, Trinidad etc?

Black cabs at Manc airport run off a price list if outside of the Manc area. Is Altrincham on the meter? Lymm is £32 off the price list as we are Cheshire
BTW, I agree that the chap's skin colour has nowt to do with his honesty.

Can I assume you didn't pay via meter?
If not, then unfortunately it's one of those things. Some drivers no doubt try it on and it is a **** take but here you go tarring all with the same brush.
Maybe now you know a rough price (depending on time of day/what day etc.) instead of writing a driver off on the basis of where you think they come from, you agree a price prior to the journey that you feel is ok, if it's not then wait for another cab.

I once got a taxi from Manchester airport to East Manchester where i used to live...
The outbound fare was £21,the fare home was £35.....
I argued the point,as i wasnt going to pay it...(the meter was apparently broken, and he was constantly refering to a piece of paper on the back of his sun visor as a tariff rate)..
We argued to the point that the taxi driver said he would call the police,i invited him to go ahead which he did....
We waited for around 20 mins outside my house and the police arrived and i explained the situation...
I explained the huge descrepancy betweeh the 2 prices, and i was happy to pay the taxi £21...But not £35 as it was far too much and there wasnt a meter reading to back the price up...
The police informed the taxi driver that he shouldnt be picking up customers with a broken meter and should not pick up any more people until it was fixed..The taxi driver then tapped the box and pressed some buttons and the meter magically sprung back to life!!!
I paid the taxi driver £21 and he drove off....I thanked the police for there assistance, they informed me that this "scam" was happening all the time, and that was the people that reported it as many just payed up happy to be at home..
This was around 5 years ago,so its been going on a long time....

Well the Driver who charged me £25 (I won't mention his ethnic origin) had obviously done something to the meter to make it charge more.
