Is (garden) decking getting a little done to death now?
We are currently doing our garden, and I have had it in my head for some time now that I will be having a decked area out the back, last week though the wife decided out of the blue that she doesn't like it and has demanded a patio.
She and a few other I have spoken to seem to reckon that decking has had it's day.
What are your thoughts on this, I need to make my mind up in the next week or so, as I need to have the whole lot finished in 6 weeks.

I like decking, but a patio will probably last longer and need less attention. Use some nice cotswold stone slabs of different sizes etc. My brother and sister in law have done theirs and it looks fab.

^^^ That I like, the pool would be nice to.
We only have an area of 21 square meters though, and I thought it may look a little silly if it was too fussy. I may just go for square slabs.

I decked out an area when I lived in Manchester.......slippery when wet and a real pain to clean
I was looking at some of the circular patio kits you can get for my present garden.

Decking was always and will always be Chavsville IMHO
Also as slippery as hell after a while. Kids, grannies and adults with three glasses of claret inside them will keel over like nine pins
Go for a traditional slab patio, decent lawn and an Iroko or Teak outside table. If there is room puts some posts up and grow a vine or something over the patio area.

Les, the only thing I found to keep the crud of my decking was Jeyes Fluid........smelt like an Elsan Loo ...... but then again, didn't the old "Iron Triangle" have a chemical toilet !!

Deeper needs were not catered for so you had to learn to hold it!
One bloke was known to use the box for the crew rations once which was pretty anti social and he got a name throughout the force which he was never allowed to forget!

I think I'll have someone in to lay it though.
