Thundercity might be just about to part with their collection of airworthy Lightnings and Buccaneers

Can't tell you how much I wish I was in the right class to be able to buy and run one. Buccaneers had an unpleasant habit of losing the odd wing althought it was a real man's machine, The Lightning as exciting as it was to fly also had the occasional peccadillo to worry the hell out of you, but the Hunter is an absolute joy to fly, it is just a natural in the air. Very very precise. That one would do me!

I am pretty sure that is why they went to SA where the rules are a lot easier. They sat at Cranfield for a long time, I used to do a little work for Sandy Topin who owned a few jets and stuff and was based up there, every so often we used to go fill the lightnings tyres with Nitrogen (from memory) it was 20 or so years ago but we used to put something in them!

I'd go for the Bucc.............my uncle built them in Brough funny looking aricraft in the flesh really, wings far to small to match the rest of the fuselage..........optimised for low level

There was a Harrier on ebay a few years ago. I tried to convince my boss to buy it - he used to fly them.
Funny really because although he flew planes and is quite an adept boatman his car doesn't have one straight panel

I suspect if they move on from TC, the v.fast pointy ones will very quickly become grounded, unless somebody has the skills and knowledge to keep them airworthy. Delta Jets already fly a Hunter or two, and I do think somebody is having an ongoing battle with the CAA to get a Buc in the air.

A Lightning doing the same thing on the otherhand would cheer up my day
(bit like when a spit and mustang did some practice sessions on the nearby hills )
