Default Ryanair jokers

Just looked at a flight to Spain on their website.

Quoted ticket price: GBP 219.98 return.

By the time I got to the payment page this had hiked to: GBP 357.50.

The only "extra" I requested was 1 max. 20kg bag for check-in. I kept everything else to a bare minimum: no insurance, no speedy boarding, no text message confirmation (), no hire-car, no sports equipment, no carbon-offsetting (), no credit card, no hand-job, but they still managed to up the advertised price by GBP 137.52 (+62.5%), by the time I got to payment!

I can get a similar flight with a package tour operator for GBP 265.00.

I won't be flying with Ryanair, that's for sure.

How much????? Are you booking last minute or something?

I rarely pay more than £100 to get to Alicante and back (depends if I'm putting bags in the hold or not, I usually try to avoid it).

Try Monarch or http://www.skyscanner.net/

My son uses Ryanair quite a bit Dublin to Gatwick. But you have to treat it just like a journey on the tube with no extras although you do get a seat. No luggage to check in and crucially book at least 2 weeks in advance. But we haven't yet worked out how to pay them without incurring a charge!!

But they are out to get you!!

Certainly difficult to understand their attitude. Surely that must lose them trade.

I don't think they hide any costs surely if after adding 1 20kg bag all that you needed to pay was the 30 odd quid charge for using your card.

We have used them a few times and never had any problems, its a cheap flight but you know what you are paying..we did manage to fly to Alicante for £60 for the 2 of us last year and that includes all the card charges etc.

I fly with Ryanair about 10 times per year. Their fee's and charges are all up front on their website. The trick is getting round these fee's.
There was a court case in Germany in May, regarding credit and debit card fee's charged by airlines. The court ruled in favour of the airlines. It seems that so long as they offer one form of free payment method, they can charge what they like on all other forms of payment.
Last year it was Visa Electron as Ryanair's free payment method. I got this card for the sole reason of avoiding the transaction charges. Just my luck that they stopped it soon after. At least I managed to get a flight to Paris Beauvais for 2p return.

The way they word their advertising is a bit of a joke. For example, when they announced the peak time baggage fee increase, they advertised it as "Ryanair urges passengers to trave light during July and August". They should've said, "we're money grabbing greedy bar stewards, we know you need to take luggage on holiday, so we're now going to charge you £50 for one 15kg bag.

It depends how you use them. As above if you treat them like a bus they are fine. I just flew with them from Poland for £30. Turn up at the airport, queue, sit down for 2 hours and get off. No luggage.

If you starting paying more than £100 then you should go with a 'proper' airline like BA.

Well it looks like I won't be flying with anyone now: Spanish air-traffic controllers look like they're going to be striking when I intended to fly. Fortunately I hadn't got round to booking anything.

I've done that before in the car pictured in my Avatar. We drove across to Llanes to watch a Spanish Rally Championship event. We then drove inland across the Picos Europa mountains to Léon and it bloody well snowed on us, in Spain, in June. I only had one long-sleeved top with me and had to wear it everyday of the holiday.

Thats old news; They've been striking (unofficially) for months now.

Its not too bad; so long as the plane you are taking isn't in the air at the time and has enough fuel to keep circling. Otherwise, that's when you get big delays as teh plane will have to divert. Operators are a bit more savvy now so they are putting on extra fuel just incase, although cheapskate operators may chance it and **** up. The one flight I was scheduled to take had to divert to refuel, then couldn't get clearance to take off to get back to the destination airport.

But, it was a £40 flight, which compared to the last time I drove over, where it worked out at over £400 (one way) once I'd factored in the tolls, food, fuel and overnight hotel.

my outlaws have a bar in javea so we fly to alicante a couple of times per year, always during school holidays. just got back this morning and we paid £195 for return flights each (2 adults, 1 child), no extras except 20kg of luggage each, with easyjet. booked them about 6 months ago, however my brother in law booked the same flight 1 week before we flew and paid £197, did the usual phone around and web search for all airlines but easyjet were still the cheapest.

only once in the last 7 or 8 years has anyone been cheaper and that was monarch.
its only ever been between £180 and £210 each, all in, never seen it cheaper (my aunt is a travel agent and i always call to see what she can do and its never any better).
