Another iphone question - changing devices question
The wife has got herself a new 3GS 16gb and is getting rid of her old generation 1 ipod touch. However what she didn't realise is the apps have transferred fine but none of her actual data from the apps/games such as Angry Birds for example. Between her and my 5 year old (yes he plays it and is annoyingly superb at it) they had got quite far but she wants the save game data on her iphone so she doesn't have to start again.
Is it possible? Can she get game saves for example from the ipod touch to the iphone? The only thing I thought could be a solution would be to use something like Diskaid to drill down and find the data/files and copy them over. However that is a last resort due to the buggering about that involves plus it may not work.

Plug in the iPod Touch, right click on the device in iTunes and select Backup. Once it's done, pop in the iPhone, then right click on the device in iTunes and select Restore from Backup. See if that copies the data from the iPod onto the iPhone.
It might work, but I'd not be shocked if it did not work as it will be seeing them as two devices.

Some games have a login option that stores your scores on a server. I don't think Angry Birds does. This might help if you're brave and a bit geeky.

Cheers Jack that was confirming my last resort, i've used diskaid for similar so confirms it can be done for app game saves Only problem is the Wife wont have her new shiny toy jailbroken lol so she will just have to start from scratch.
Markus that had crossed my mind too but was concerned at the effect of different OS levels apart from them being two different devices so have given that one a miss.
And after all that resistance i've now ended up with an iphone 4 32gb after visiting the o2 store for the Wife to get a case for hers, I knew I should have stayed at home!

I should have one for "QA testing" of our apps on Monday. A few of the chaps spent some absurd length of time waiting in line on Friday. I shall be having a play before de using wether I really need one.

Having sworn blind I didn't need one as it just wouldn't be that different i've been eating my own words all day. It works how I wanted my 3G to work, fecking fast! Just opening apps or a web page is pretty much instant where at the 3G always had to think about it.
Have hardly used it yet and now trying to work out iTunes as everything is set up for my 3G and adding the 4 it hasn't sync'd anything other than my apps so trying to get contacts and music on.

I've just found out from Apple you can back up your original device and restore it to your new device, the fact the hardware and firmware are different does not matter! Doh!
So 2 weeks on it means we can both go back to where we were with our old devices and get all out data/saves back but we will lose the last 2 weeks apps/games data/saves.
This will also work between ipod touch and iphones too, I just didn't think this could happen as thinking along IT lines you wouldn't back up and restore between different hardware without major issues.
That's a few hours of sorting out and messing around to be done then to combine my last 2 years of iphone 3g on to my iphone 4 and then get back the new apps I have since moving to the 4.
