Recommendations on exercise cycles/cross trainers/rowers
Hi,
Looking into buying of ebay a new/used exercise bike-now i see some nice ones that retail in argos around the £250-£300 mark and sell on ebay as catalogue returns at around the £85 to £100 mark, been just perusing so far and was looking at some roger black endorsed ones that are in price range above and you can either buy just ones that are cycles only, or are combined with either a cross trainer or rowing machine.
Now its the cycle part im most interested in being a keen mountain biker but would one that combined it with another feature so i get 2 machines for price of one be better?
What are peoples views of these machines? good rubbish etc? what sort of features should i look out for, is it also a case of the heavier the flywheel the better on them or does it not really matter if one is 5kg flywheel and other is 6kg?
As i say being a keen mountain biker i would want one that has computer on it with various programmes so i could set it to replicate either mountain biking or sometimes to spin on it etc.
Any advice please.
Many thanks.

I'd have thought you'd have been better off getting some rollers or turbo trainer for your existing mountain bike.
I use the Concept 2 at the gym, I'd agree a great bit of kit.

dont really wish to use rollers on bike as it means either carrying bike upstairs to rollers or bringing rollers into back garden etc to use-would rather just have an exercise bike in gym to use as and when-and not be bothered bout weather.Seen those concept 2 on ebay but think they fetch £375 upwards-bit more then i wish to spend tbh.

Altho my gf uses a concept 2 also at gym and says how good it is-but that is obviously a top notch professional bit of kit-perhaps a bit overkill for a modest home gym...

I bought one of these although not from here and for £30 more
It's not for hard core gym work but it is pretty good and gives you a decent workout for pretty much every part of your body.
As someone who used to go to the gym it's really not bad for the money, if this is what you're after.

I sell things. . .
Rule of thumb, if you want to use the machine seriously Do not get a "home use" model.
You need a get a commercial / light commercial kit - be it new or reconditioned.
Concept 2, Tunturi are a couple of good makes.
Look out for reconditioned ones on ebay - or approach the manufactures directly.
Please do not touch Reebok with a very long bargepole.

I realise a rower like a concept 2 is good but its just what they cost even on ebay-i hear what you are saying tho, as in, you only get what you pay for.
More i think bout it-i think an exercise bike better for me, wether its a standalone bike or a bike plus rower or bike/cross trainer.

Can kind of understand the rowing machine, but an Exercise Bike, asuming you arent agrophobic why not just go out on your bike, exercise bikes are the most tedious pursuit known to man !
Just get the right gear, you can go out, day or night, whatever the weather, in fact I love the bridle paths in the winter, empty, dark with a the full blast of my LED light its kind of like a special stage.
An hour inside sweating, staring at four walls or outside in the elements, no contest !

I have a Concept C2 and a Kettler EXT cross trainer. As other people have said, the C2 is a gym-quality piece of kit (and priced as such). The EXT is really robust as well, cost about £500 new IIRC.

A cross trainer is a good piece of kit and will give you a similar workout to a bike. If you`re interested I`ve got one for sale
