Default Advice travelling from Basingstoke to Gatwick?

Hi

We're flying off on our holidays on Tues at 1230pm. So knowing that we need to be at the airport at 1030am presents us with the problem of rush hour as we are starting out from Derby.
To avoid starting out very early from Derby we are travelling to a friends house near Basingstoke on Monday evening who has kindly let us stay over.

So my question to the local peeps from this neck of the woods. Should we avoid the M25 even i we aim to be at the airport at 1030? Routeplanner gives just over 1hr duration from Basingstoke to Gatwick but we'd give ourselves say 1.5-2hrs.

Any advice, alternative routes, timings very much welcomed.

Thanks

Nick

The M25 should be fine, Its not too bad in that direction. I assume you will do M3, M25, M23, most of the rush hour traffic is from the M3 junction to M4. Having said that it is the M25 and you can never really second guess it.
If you tune into BBC London before you set out (94.9) it will give you the M25 traffic news, it its bad then I would go up to M3 junction 5, through Farnham onto the A31, through guildford on the A281 and out towards Crawley, its takes a bit longer but there is rarely traffic that way.

Another local, here. Tim is pretty much bang on. However you could always go to M3 J4, and take the A331 to the A31, then off at Puttenham and follow the road to the A281. I can do A331 to LGW in 75mins most days, leaving at 07:30.

You could use the train. Takes about an hour and a half but better than sitting on a motorway if there is a problem. No parking worries at Gatwick.

Basingstoke to Clapham Junction and then out again to Gatwick.

Have a nice holiday btw.

Id suggest an airport taxi but sounds like your travelling by car anyway so Im not sure your friends would want your car on their drive whilst your away

Just go a bit earlier and chill with a coffee & some shopping.
