I have banked with NatWest for a scary amount of time and it was only by accident a few months ago that I realised they were owned by RBS. I'm sure they didn't send anything to people who hold accounts.

Did you also know that Direct line, Churchill, Privilege, UKI and Green Flag to name a few more are all part of RBS? there's not many insurance companies that are not part of RBS or underwritten by them

There are a HUGE number of insurance companies that are not part of RBS or underwritten by them 
Anyway - Direct Line and the gang are currently up for sale. Patrick Snowball was tried to buy them a little while back and they said no. Now they are knocking down his door!

I was just interested as Nat West are doing a lot of advertising at the moment about being the customer friendly bank - a campaign that seems to depend on people not knowing that are part of RBS.
If people do not make the connection then Nat West is a relatively untainted brand (all the taint was absorbed by its parent!).

Saying that, I've banked with NatWest for nearly 20 years and they have always been very good to me. In fact, going to get a mortgage with them tomorrow as they have offered me (verified by two independant brokers) the best mortgage deal they've seen recently.

I wouldn't have any experience with Nat West had it not been for a client of ours.
Personally, wife and I were looking for business loans to buy a hair salon. We went to HSBC because that is who the company I work for bank with. They were very friendly etc but the rates offered were very high (15% on a loan of £15K plus 6% over base on a £5K overdraft)
The client mentioned he'd used Natwest and had been very good with him so I went up there to get rate info. They offered 7.5% on the loan and 5.5% on the OD plus 2 years free banking compared to HSBC 1 year.
We considered moving our business over to Natwest but the level of service has been quite poor. It took them over a month to provide a paying in book and cheque book (fortunately we were not trading at the the time) and once we were trading all the card transactions were going into the loan account and not the day to day account (this was done by the business accounts manager not some back office lackey)
Its all sorted now and working well but had HSBC managed to get even close to Natwest offer we would have stayed with HSBC.
