I'm suspicious at this point - where are the results of this study? They seemed to have reported their findings straight to the media rather than to any medical journal for peer-review.

I wouldn't be surprised if this study was part-funded by Halfords.

Edit: Ah I stand corrected - published in the European Journal of Epidemiology, though the BBC thought that not important enough to document. Still, it's a bit early to be making brash claims like this.

What is the point? Most air conditioning and air handling systems in shops and offices are ridden with fungus and bacteria anyway (living off the damp and dead skin). To think I worked on these things without much consequence (maybe a few extra colds if that).

Anyhoo, my washer bottle is moudly - and thats always had a strong mix of screenwash in there (50:50 usually, so I can use it to de-ice the windscreen in winter).

Tony
I once made the mistake of using an old unwashed beer bottle to refill my tank. A couple of summer weeks later, what a stench. I ended up running two tankfuls of clean water through it and refilling with lots of screenwash added.

I think the real trick is to avoid breathing the spray in when you use the windscreen washer.
