What job would you have liked to have done ?
I have always harboured a desire to be a pilot, Top Gun stylee like Les would have been nice but I am not good with projectiles being fired at me so commercial would have done, probably some time in the Seventies when air travel had a smidge of glamour left, 747 Captain would have done ! I expect it isnt as great as I think it is but still would liked to have found out, all those Stewardesses as well, no competition from the Stewards either, its like the Eunuchs in the Roman Empire all/most of the Stewards being gay.
What did you fancy doing before reality bit ? I work with computer databases and its a fairly alright job but not exactly exciting.

marine videographer for me. Don't ask me why, but I really wanted to do it. Still wouldn't mind ditching the 9 - 5 to work for the BBC wildlife unit as a camera man.

Figher pilot! Passed all the aptitude tests, but unfortunatley had asthma so was automatically rejected. Shame that really, as I had a personal recommendation from some Wing Commander at an airshow (we were both on a simulator and I blasted him to bits...only person ever to do so appraently)
Anyone want to lend me a different fully functional body?

Also a footballer as i loved it. I was on Wrexham's books. Glad I had a career ending knee injury to be honest the way football has gone. No heart and passion in it no more just money, money, money.

Rally or F1 Mechanic, the thought of travelling the world and been challenged in that environment appeals to me but I'll be the first to admit that I'm no where near intelligent enough to gain the qualifications needed to get to that level.

Fireman. Just was far too lazy to train and then actually walk into a burning building, when everyone else is running out.

I recall clearly a number of events around this. I was a bit if a daydreamer at primary school, I recall a teacher asking everyone in the class what they would like to be when they grow up. All the lads were wanting to be pilots, astronauts, policemen, doctors or whatever. When it came my turn, for reasons I cant explain, I said I wanted to be a scarecrow... something which I still get ridiculed about 25 years on.
On leaving high school, I wanted to be a Civil Servant, mainly because my mate was a civil servant and always seemed to have a fair bit of cash about him. On my final day of school my form teacher asked me what I had lined up for myself. I told her I was going to be a civil servant. She said that was very apt, a lazy job for a lazy boy.
I currently work in the field of number plate recognition technology.

Pro Golfer would have been nice, not that I would aim low but even mid euro table makes a healthy living. Pity I started drinking and meeting easy women back when I did as I wasnt altogether pathetic at it either!
Back playing again but is certainly harder when you have a family and no time for practice.

A rock star: Leather trousers, long hair and a line of girls as long as the line of coke.
Now I'm older and wiser I see the folly of my ways and I'm happy with my lot.

I wanted to be a pilot, but my grandmother said that every boy wanted to be a pilot.
I wanted to be a microelectronic engineer, but my teachers said my grades were "too good", that everyone was doing computing, so I should do medicine.
The careers adviser said I should install TV aerials, although doing that on my bedroom ceiling was how I broke my arm.
I did medicine, now I split between doctoring and computing/engineering.

I would like to have been a Doctor. Now saying that I still CAN become a doctor if I wish, but I have a wife and two children so would be very difficult to go to University for 5 years and then residency and I'd be nearly 50 at the end of it!
I have an extremely good job, but just feel that as a Doctor I could make a difference, help people etc...

In a former life I was in University recruitment in Manchester.....there were age limits on admission to medicine and dentistry.
The State didn't want to spend a shed load on educating Medics and Dentists who retired at 55 and spent only 5 years on the job.
It might be different now though...

Same again for a Pilot had the qualificatins for it but girls and cars took over so opted for a AEM in the navy. Now a aerial and satellite engineer. Regretting it would be a understatement

My careers adviser said that I would become a "fly by night" and a "man about town" .... 30 odd years down the line I'm still not sure what he meant, presumably someone who lived "on the dole" LOL

I wanted to be a fighter pilot with a view to then becoming an astronaut, I kid you not!
For some reason (I don't know why) I developed an interest in medicine and became a doctor. I've no idea whether I would have had the ability to be a fighter pilot, I certainly do well at most tasks in life if I put my mind it. Though I appreciate a very different set of skills are needed for a fighter pilot compared to a doctor
I'm glad I didn't actually become a fighter pilot, the thought of killing anybody for any reason just fills me with dread at this age.
I love being a Doc, great job satisfaction, no regrets at all. However whenever I see a fighter jet on TV/airshow etc I go always give a deep sigh and wonder what it must be like to fly at twice the speed of sound!!

Is the Subaru the nearest thing to an aeroplane for a wanabee fighter pilot? There seems to be a lot of Snetters who want to play with their joysticks!
If anything I always wanted to be a scientist but was just too lazy to do all the research.
I think I wanted to be a spaceman for a while too.
But as I got older the Dalai Lama seemed like the ideal job.
