Tyres - side wall cracking ??
Any advice on the following guys - wife`s hyundai coupe was originally bought with the standard oe alloys, having owned the car from just a year old - 51 plate we noticed over the years the amount off tyres we have had to replace due to side wall splitting, always just put this down to the car standing / very low mileage, two years ago we replaced these alloys for a brand new set off 17`s which came with brand new budget tyres as part off the package, within just six months one off the front tyres required replacing due to major side wall splitting only for the other side to be replaced not long after that again due to same problem !!
just noticed again last night whilst topping up the tyre pressures that the front drivers side surprise, surprise has major splitting on the side wall !!!
the one requiring replacing still has full tread and has probably only covered around 4k if that.
took the car back to the tyre supplier today and was told that all they can do is replace tyre and send it back to supplier and if it turnd out to be faulty then you get a full refund.
so okay, keep the tyre prssures up to level, the car is used a lot more within the last year or so so is not being left standing for long periods off time, why should I still be get this side wall cracking problem ??

Okay cheers guys I think we can safely say its probably down to just buying cheap tyres then !! in saying that the tyres that were supplied with the alloy wheel packageon the rear off the car are still fine, just seems very strange that it seems to effect the front wheels, rear wheel drive car. any idea why it should effect the front only ??

Okay cheers again for the advice guys, you reckon that if the tracking was out then this could cause the above problem ?? as I say just seems to happen to the front tyres, getting a new tyre fitted tuesday so going to have them check the tracking whilst they are at it.

My last set of Pirrelli P6000's cracked very badly within a year. Got cheap *** tyres on the motor at the moment and they've been fine for the past 8months.

bit off a mystery to be honest but will certainly make sure the tracking is done if this could be a cause.

Pirellis have always been awful for perishing no matter what model, be it the Cinturato, P6, P600, P6000 right upto a P-zero Rosso, they all do it. Probably why they are usually quite poor in the wet for a "branded" tyre (as the rubber goes hard and loses its pliability as it ages).
Whereas I've never had a problem with Michelins or Continentals
