Sky HD - Self set-up
I've been toying with the idea about upgrading to Sky HD for a while now and I've noticed that you can get a free HD box with no installation fee if you take the "Self set-up" option.

Does anyone know what's involved in the self set-up?
If it's simple enough then I think I will go for it and save myself £60, which in turn will pay for 6 months HD subscription.

are you replacing your old Sky+ box with a SKY HD box? if so just swap the two feeds. you will need to ring sky and get your viewing card changed to an HD subscription. they will link your viewing card number to an HD subscription. if you wand to use your old sky box as a free to air box then you need to change to a quad feed lnb. and run another 2 cables from the dish to the FTA box.
new SKY HD boxes only have HDMI connections on them AFAIK. old thompson boxes had both component video and an HDMI sockets. you will need to make sure your telly is HD compliant i.e. has got HDMI sockets.

Oh an another thing, SKY are a bunch of robbin bar stewards. I paid full wack for my orginal HD box. when i asked for another HD subscription they stung me again for £200. add to that i had to fork out another £10/month. they also wanted another £30 to resite the surplus SKY+ box to another room. They had to supply an octofeed LNB though.

So... I upgraded from Sky + to Sky + HD, I still have the old Sky + box, is it just a case of running two cables from the dish to the other box, and that can be used as normal sky +. Maybe in a bedroom etc.

cookie,
yes, but you may need to change the LNB on the dish to a quad output. sky+ will not work unless you have a valid multiroom sub. it works fine as a free to air box though.
