Retail/distribution rules in the EU
Hello, can somebody help with this?
I want to buy a piece of electrical equipment that is made in Denmark. There it retails for £1500. In Germany it is on sale for 2000 euros = £1750, in this country its £2750.
The manafacturer has its distributors in all these countries (and more) Are there EU rules that say that the Danish or Germans must sell to me and post it? Or does the companies exclusive distribution agreements with the different countries over ride everything?
Thanks

Thanks guys. I've defo found a retailer in Germany that sells at £1750, and I'm pretty sure the guys in Denmark that sell at £1500 are retailers, but might be retailers and distributors.
If they give me any grief and tell me to buy in the UK what should I say?
Paul, day off from handing out BNP leaflets?

this is how we work, and our agreements with most of the dealers is that they have exclusive rights to sell our products in their country.
However, we do not have agreements with the general population of each company that they have to buy from that retailer. If they want to get it shipped from another country that's their choice, and does happen. the only thing we refuse to do is sell direct.
Of course this could differ from company to company.

Thanks Scarey. Yes warranty would be an issue, I can't see the UK dealer wanting to touch it if it went wrong. Its a very reliable piece of kit and worst case scenario I could send it back to Denmark if there was a problem. It may cost £100 there and back in postage but given the saving of approx £1200 thats no biggie really.
