Are exotic cars still exotic or is there just more cash
In the last week cummuting the A1m, I have seen what I used to class as exotica but seriously questioning what is classed as exotica now.
So far
4 x A8
2 x Ferrari
3 x Bentley
2 x Carrera GT's
5 x Aston's (db8 and 9's)
1 x Rolls Royce.
No kidding, I have seen less 08/ 09 imprezas (like 3 inc mine!!!)

I've stopped counting the Bentleys, Astons, Audi R8 and Porkers.
I just count what looks fun (M25 over the last few months):
- 2 Lexus ISF
- 1 Mercedes DTM
- 1 Lamborghini LM002

Same here. It's all down to the bean-counters. They just want to sell as many cars as possible. The exclusive marques used to be limited by production capacity and caché, but I guess it was Porsche who decided to go "mass-market" as it were, firstly with the 924, 944, 964 range and from the late '80s onwards with the 911 as well. I see more Porsches every day than Imprezas.
In the '90s Ferrari followed and in the 00's Astons as well. There's even a good chance you'll spot a Lambo on any reasonable run these days, with the almost ubiquitous Gallardo. You could go a year or more without seeing a Countach or Jalpa except on your bedroom wall back in the '80s.
So yeah, you're right there are more exotic cars about these days: it's just that they're not that rare anymore.

I wouldn't regard an A8 as exotic - it is no more exotic than an S class or a 7 series Beemer! I think the only exotic car on your list is the Carrera GT.
Exotic has changed - nowadays exotic is a Pagani Zonda or an Enzo.
I once saw an F1, F50 and F40 in a convoy heading towards Dunsfold. That was exotic.
As for Lambo's there are still only about 20,000 Lambo's sold, ever! Their peak was around 2,500 in 2007. Worldwide. So not exactly common.

It's a good point - I guess the margin has closed down due to the 'GT' style touring cars that the 'Supercar' companies have adopted.
You only need to see a Ferrari 612/599/575/550/456 which to me are all fast touring cars. Sure, they have the supercar engine, but I don't class them as Exotica!
An Enzo - yes, it's something special, likewise the 430/360/355/348 for example. Too many well-paid salesman bagging themselves a fast car home now
Lamborghini I don't feel had lost their touch - every car they release always seem so 'on the edge' in terms of styling and performance. They are all exotica. Glad they've not fallen into the trap that Ferrari, Porsche, Masserati and Bentley have.

Agreed, the term exotica has moved on, or we now talk about hyper cars rather than supercars. Exotica to me now means stuff like
Lambo Murcielago
Enzo
Porsche CGT
Zonda
Veyron
