Just be careful of the risks. That said, there are risks carrying on smoking.
I had to be taken off Zyban as I had a fit, however that may be unrelated to the zyban as I have since been diagnosed with epilepsy.
It wasn't really working for me, but I think that was down to my lack of will power.

I'm taking Champix at the moment. Been quit for just over 6 weeks. Only given into temptation once. Smoked 1/2 the cig and put it out. First few days were the hardest and it has got easier since then. You do need to have will power and want to quit even when you're taking them.

Hmmmm. From Zyban (bupropion)
"... It is not fully understood how this medicine works to help people give up smoking, but it is known that bupropion affects neurotransmitters in the brain ..."
... and from Champix (varenicline)
"... There have been reports of suicidal thoughts or behaviour in people taking this medicine to help them give up smoking .... Some people may find that when they stop taking this medicine their urge to smoke returns ..."
Right. So a choice between a drug that they don't know how it works or one that *may* produce suicidal behaviour and *may* not work anyway! I know what my choice would be if I had to choose between them! What's wrong with the old will power?

Varenicline + will power > will power
I hardly ever prescribe buproprion any more.
I have had to stop varenicline about once a year because someone has low mood. I prescribe it about twice a week I reckon at present, counting both initiation and continuation.
But I would go off the studies of discontinuation rates rather than my anecdotals.
If I smoked I would not hesistate to use varenicline after a trial of will power and NRT.

I've been advised to take a starter pack in reverse for the last 2 weeks of the champix course and cut the dose down gradually. I've got 2 more weeks before that happens, so willl see how I get on!
