Exclamation MOT Failures - List shows worst offenders!

Ford leads in MOT failures as figures are revealed.

MOT failure rates for cars and small vans have been published for the first time following a Freedom of Information (FoI) request by the BBC.

For popular vehicles first used in 2004, Ford Transit Connect had the highest failure rate at 30.5%, followed by the Renault Megane and Ford Transit.

The Toyota Corolla had the lowest failure rate with just 11.2%.

The data relates to MOT tests carried out in 2007 and is available on the VOSA website as a PDF document consisting of 1,200 pages.

There are some clear patterns here and certainly some Japanese models seem to do very well," said Mr Rosenbaum.

"We've got Hondas, Toyotas but not just those; Ford Fiestas and VW Polos - there are a number of cars that seem to do well."

The Renault Megane had a failure rate of 28.1% while the Ford Transit experienced a 26.3% failure rate.

Failing the MOT could be down to lack of care & maintenance by the owner & not just crapness of the manufacturers. Having said that I know a lot of people who've had trouble with Ford Transits ..

The least reliable vehicle appears to be the 1995 Alfa Romeo 166 with 100% of them failing the MOT.

Transits and many commercial vehicles fail MOTs alot on front nearside front ball joints and track rod ends - usually from the divots driving them bouncing the things up curbs day in day out when parking.

Failures on lighting, wipers, wheels, tyres and brakes are usually maintenance issues.

The MOT test standards in this country are that relaxed, it suprising/worrying how many vehicles do in fact fail. TBH. They need to be stricter (especially with suspension and brakes), yet talk keeps going on about relaxing it further!

Should be every 2 years the MOT - or dependant on mileage?

gotta think though, alot of commercial vehicles do a very high amount of mileage every year which is gonna take more of a toll on it then the little old grannys corolla. my friends transit has just done 60,000 miles and is 2 1/2 years old so you can expect that to have a few failures on it when it comes to its first M.O.T.

My classic Mini Cooper was congratulated on its condition during its MOT. The BMW Mini Cooper just flies through.

Saw this but couldn't be bothered to post it. No surprise Renault Megane at the top, slightly more surprising that citroen isn't as well represented.

Miles is the key feature, mondeos, vectras etc will be rep mobiles and have racked up plenty of miles so fails could come easy.

My Scooby failed the MOT just before Christmas... numberplate bulb, instant re-test and passed no other faults but that will look bad in these stats when it was hardly an issue.

5t.

Suprised when I took my alfa 156 (no much good!) for its mot, I was dreading it as it had appeard to have failed all previous mots (mainly due to a child seat!)

anyway it had passed and I put it down to the fact I took it to a council run mot center
well, like above it failed on no. plate bulb but he replaced them for £1
