What tv hdd recorder?
Just cancelled Sky so losing sky+ I would like to buy a tv hdd recorder and thinking of a freesat hd one but look as though £200 is the cheapest which is way too expensive.
What are the cheapest out there for just freeview recorder and freesat/freesat hd recorders?
I thought now might be a good time to buy due to January sales etc?

Cheers Shaun.
However due to price I may just go with this:
Buy Alba ALDTR160 160GB Digital TV Recorder. at Argos.co.uk - Your Online Shop for .
Seems to have half decent reviews and better than the Goodmans £60 one at Asda:
Goodmans 160GB HDD Personal Video Recorder | Digital Receivers & Hard Drive Recorders | ASDA direct
Only need it for recordings and not to watch channels through so think i'll go with a cheapo and upgrade to a freesat HDR when they come down in price.
Not decided yet and got a month until I need one before Sky+ finishes so time for plenty more suggestions/research.

Id go the Humax and Id swap the fixed disk to a 500GB device if the existing storage wasnt sufficient. Theyll (almost) always work, providing that you copy the partition styles and type correctly.

Cheers again for the replies.
Richie already got an external capture box but can't be ar$ed with it as too many cables and needing the pc to be on, then having to stream it to the TV etc, just want to have a box to replace the sky+ box so can do series link and just watch it without messing about with pc's.
GC8 why the Humax? I know they seem to be the top name but what do they do better than the others? The Alba is a rebadged Vestel T825 which seem to be popular?

If I was going for an upmarket PVR i'd think about a "Toppy".... not a humax

Hmmm... Humax isnt 'upmarket' though Shaun, theyre more squarely in the 'alright for the money' sector of the market.
Bob: Humax are well regarded and Freeview receivers are really only low-end PCs; and a cheap/poor one will be a massive PITA. I have a £100 Philips receiver which has a £20 (both 1996 figures) receiver board inside. They had me royally and the bast*rd thing needs constant retuning and unplugging due to its endless lock-ups and gremlins.
The cheapest solution will be a DVB-T receiver card for your PC. Freeview is broadcast in MPEG2 so the device only needs to write the raw data, unlike analogue television which needed an expensive hardware MPEG encoder to record good quality video in real-time.

Cheers, had seen the Goodmans one for example gets the sound out of sync from the picture which is a joke, how can they sell the bloody thing.
I'll take a look at the Humax range as well then, especially now i've seen the sky+ boxes going on ebay for upto £50. I've got a Pace one with a new handset still wrapped up and exactly the same went for £50 last night so that will go straight towards getting a better pvr model.

Whilst in town the Mrs insisted on going to the new Asda Living. Begrudgingly trudged in so insisted in looking at electricals and found a Sagem DTR67320T for £97 when they are £150 everywhere else
Buy SAGEM DTR 67320T | Freeview+ recorder - Specification | Comet
320gb
HDMI port and upscales to 720p/1080i
USB port for output to external hdd so can put the programmes on pc and record to DVD
Picture in picture
Very low power consumption
Does everything Sky+ does plus loads of extra features that I wanted such as being able to move recordings off else where.
The few reviews i've read have been good so will research further just in case before opening it and using it.
