I'm sure HD came with the new menu where it had a preview in the top right corner, so you could carry on watching tv while browsing for something better?
Also if anybody knows, you can set the HD to both 720 and 1080, My tv is 720, but its set to 1080. If i do change the resolution to 720 i notice no difference?

It's been rolled out to all boxes I thought but if yours doesn't have it then I expect your box is an Amstrad. It will probably download and update soon. Just make sure you leave the box on or in standby.
All the Sky HD broadcasts are in 1080i so if your TV can do that then it's best leaving it on that or Auto. If your tv cant do 1080i then either the TV or the HD box must scale the picture to your 720 resolution. If you set it to 720 on the Sky Hd box then it will scale all broadcasts to that resolution. If you put it on Auto the broadcast be it SD or HD will be sent to your tv in it's native format leaving the TV to scale the picture to fit. The preference is up to you but modern TV's probably scale better than the box.

I'm not sure if this works on Sky HD, but you can force an update by:
Unplug the power for the box
Hold down the "back up" button on the box (not the remote)
Still holding "back up", plug power back into the box.
When the "updating" message is displayed on your TV, release "back up"
Edit: Apparently this works on the Sky HD box as well as Sky+

I have had my HD box for quite a while but it was only recently updated. It depends on the make of your Sky SD box. They should all have the EPG available by now.
It does appear all of a sudden and is installed via the dish. My phone line is not connected. I quite like it although it has the odd peculiarity, but nothing which can't be put up with.

I wouldn`t class the new EPG as being funky, it has some good new features but overall its very slow and lethergic most of the time.
Ive switched the mini tv off because you only get a small view of the programme listings when its enabled, with it switched off its a full page as normal. The series recording feature is good where it stacks the same recorded episodes into a small folder so that they are not all over the place.

In my opinion you are lucky to still have the old menu. A lot of issues being reported with the new EPG and menu. Been through them myself since getting it on my Thomson, and that's after replacing the naff PSU in the Decoder. These include losing 1 of your signals which causes failed recordings
