Default Wow,Internets expensive !

just looking to get my mum online and all the packages have hidden charges

wanted to thru sky, its free for their 2mb package, great

go to set it up and its £60 setup fee and you need to take out their talk packagae at an extra £11 a mth,so basically £11 for their "free" package

checking out others, its the same, line rental charges ontop of bt rental plus £5.99 a mth

she only wants basic package and yet this is silly money

glad i dont have internet at home to pay/worry about

Wifi unsecured networks FTW

The talk package will replace her phone bill so should be comparable and no extra cost, also if she doesn't have a BB router then at least she's getting something for £60.

I'm thinking of going with Sky but since I already have all the gear the £60 is a PITA

I don't have a phone line, so all these cheap packages become very expensive. It'll be very hard for me to beat Virgin Cable.

Be*There for me as well, but you will still need to pay the £11 fee to BT for a phone line.

I think the Post Office do a good deal.

i'm shortly going on this and having the £20.50 a month which inludes line rental and free evening and weekend calls plus international calls at weekend.

http://www.postoffice.co.uk/portal/p...diaId=58000695

If anyone knows of a better deal then please tell me.

Well what about the wireless dongles fron the like of O2 and 3 ?
Probably the cheapest way of getting internet connection (no land line needed) and they offer 1 month rolling contracts as well ?

A couple of mates have had these and they are really hit and miss tbh. i did a speed check on my buddies as it was so slow and it was 5 times slower than dial-up.

They've both ditched the wireless ones now as they were that crap.

Talktalk even thought they are a potential hassle you can get the BB free with the line rental and it should do your mom ok.

But the way i've read it is that you don't have to pay BT £11 a month line rental so in effect its free evenings, or for an extra £5 a month anytime if she's on the phone all day!
