For Leslie
Here you go, I was at Cosford on Sunday for a very enjoyable day.
The old girl appeared for her first public appearance this year, and what a sight she was!
I thought the commentator was going to cry.
Must have been great to fly
Not as loud as I remember though, but still something to see.
Geezer

Should be carrying a WE177 in that empty bomb bay ....

Thanks Geezer, what outstanding pictures, brought back a lot of very good memories and the suspicion of a little tear I don't mind admitting. Yes it was by far the most impressive aircraft out of all the ones I was lucky enough to fly. With that monster wing and all that power it was a true "hooligan's" machine
You are right about your WE 177 Pete, but it was so small that you could hardly notice it in the bomb bay, unless you accidentally dropped it! Then we'd all know!
I imagine it sounde quieter because apart from the manoeuvre restrictions placed on it by the CAA, the chief Vulcan engineering officer also restricts large throttle movements to save loading up the engines more than necessary. No longer that stomach busting scream at full whack

Thats a very interesting link Pete. It should explain a lot to all who are interested and saves me a lot of typing too.

My Dad was there on Sunday and made the same comment. A good 15 minute show but without the full-power bowel-shaking armageddon-inducing power-ups etc of her previous days as I remember her as an RAF airshow star. For obvious longevity reasons, of course.
Well worth the day out.

Aye, shame about that, but they did light them up to an extent.
Typhoon was possibly the loudest thing I have ever heard, apart from being about 40 feet from a Harrier whilst hovering once!
It was sad that the B17 couldn't show either

Very impressive - I'd love to see this flying!
It seems odd that it's got camo paint on the under-side of the wings to me however, surely you would have that side painted in light grey or a colour which aims to blend in with the sky?...

They went from all white to camo on top and finally camo all over. It was hoped that at low level you would not be seen for very long against the sky as a backdrop anyway. The whole idea about Camo was to break up the outline of what you don't want people to see anyway.

Hmm, Majestic old Bird, Bomb Bay doors spread wide....
I suspect Les is correct in what he says about why it wasnt as loud, there is only one flying, I guess they dont want to break it.
