As above, thought I'd join the fraternity of people seeking home appliance advice.
Our Hotpoint seems to have gone up the shoot. All we get when we turn it on is combination of flashing lights. Very pretty but this is fecking useless for washing your clothes!
Any suggestions?

If you can't stretch to a Miele then Zanussi are supposed to be fairly good.
Hotpoint are sh*te as you've found out

Which? reckon that there's only two "Best Buys" under £300...
1. Whirlpool AWO/D 5526 @ £219.00
2. Candy GO482 GrandO @ £299.00
Personally, for a decent washing machine, I'd pay more and get a better and longer lasting piece of kit. However, you could buy three or four of those for what I paid for my last Miele, so who's the mug? But it does clean beautifully and is very quiet...

Our old one which lasted less than 3 years was a Hotpoint Aquarius. They are the same company as Indecit I believe.....so good luck!

Drum bearing is always the first thing to go and as it's nigh on impossible to replace it's usually more cost effective to get a new machine. Five year life span typically

Our Indesit went bang in a big way yesterday, the man that came to look at it said that the drum shaft had gone, cost more to replace than a new machine. He recommended Bosch, Siemens or Miele. He reckoned Indesit were OK for, say, couples doing light loads, but he thought we'd done really well to get 7 years out of it, particularly as we have two kids.
Another interesting snippet was that he said the liquids tended to clog the machines more than powder or tablets, causing parts to corrode and give up.
Anyway, a new Bosch is on its way tomorrow

3 years ago when we moved house we needed a new washing machine and a fridge freezer, we set a limit of £300 per item. Found Co-op online and they always seem to do deals - £500 rrp washing machine for £300 etc. Ended up getting an AEG washer/dryer for £300 and a Zanussi F/F for £300 too. It was silver as well, woo hoo
Anyway 3 years on and no trouble from the washer/dryer (although we don't use the dryer much at all). The wife isn't exactly sympathetic to the max load reccommendations either but its taking the abuse well
