Hi All
Does anyone live in or around Guildford.... I have been asked to go for an interview for a company there and just want to know what it is like before I agree and fly on over...
Cheers
Ian

Will you be commuting or living locally?
Its not a bad old area, access it pretty good, crime not too shocking, used to be a Guildford cruise on every Sunday but thats long gone (still a small following)
Good shopping, leisure centre / ice rink, college, pretty well policed.
What things you actually wanna know?

Cost of everyday living is not too sad. Petrol usually the lower end of the market, regular supermarkets etc there to buy from.
Going out is at a premium but again, not astronomic.
One of the fly on the wall TV series's recently shown was filmed round there, with Surrey Police. Street Crime UK or something.

Some of the guys I know who work for Ericsson's in Guildford have a hell of a time getting there in the morning due to the traffic so not exactly driver friendly
House wise, very expensive so you have to live outside and commute... doh!

The narrowing of the A3 does not help just by Guildford though, I agree.

I went to Uni there. Lovely place back then and I suspect it still is. But as mentioned very expensive.

Guildford is lovely and there are good areas with moderate property prices like Burpham and Merrow.
Totty is top notch
There is an area near the station where all the pubs and clubs have gone so any late night fun/trouble is now all in one area.
We really liked living in Guildford - oh, and it is always about 2-3 deg warmer as it seems to trap warm/sunny weather in the summer. Lots of local Scooby meets too.

Guildford is fine as said. But it is real London commuter area with good service to London, Waterloo I think.
Personally I would rather live in Sussex which I did when I worked there and drove in daily which was fine as you get to know the short cuts.
Good shopping, eating, clubbing and theatre. My kids would choose Guildford or Brighton for a fun night out.
Third wealthiest town in UK so I was told. dl

I worked in Guildford for over 4 years at the old DEFRA site on Epsom road. I loved Guildford, shops were great, lots of girls, clean, really lovely place.
I worked in London before Guildford, and thought that was hype and preferred Guildford.
I live down near Worthing and drove up the A24 and was at work by 7am, so traffic was ok.
Bramley would be the place I would move too , nice village feel, lovely houses, close to Guildford.
Nice area, you will love it there.

sbk - Bramley is very nice indeed. But pricey.
We lived in West Horsley, about 6 miles away - pretty nice as was Ockham, Shere and a load of other places. Nice place to grow up.

Work in Guildford and live not too far away.
On the plus side its a very good area, very low crime and quality of life is good. IMHO try to stay east of the A3 if possible unless you head south of Godalming. The surrounding villages are brilliant but you pay for it.
Less good is its expensive, houses cost a fortune and the traffic can be a nightmare in rush hour. There are places to avoid - never had a problem with Aldershot myself, but Park Barn is definitely best given a wide berth.
Have lived near by (save a few years at Uni) since I was 13. Always feel safe parking the car when its between a Porsche and an Aston!
Good luck with the interview.

Lived there for 20 years and couldn't wait to get out. Roads are a mess, crime isn't great and people seem have their heads so far up their ar$e its not funny. And as mentioned - its an expensive place for property and even going out for a few drinks.
Unfortuantely my folks still live there so I have to keep visiting, all I can say is I moved ever so slightly south down the A3 and its sooooooooo much nicer - and cheaper!
On the other side of the coin, it would be perfectly fine to work there, just live outside it! (but not aldershot or farnborough!)

I come from not too far away originally. It is a very pleasant area, can be expensive as anywhere can be in that part of the UK.
The Surrey countryside is very beautiful and a house away from the heavily populated areas would be very nice if you could afford it.
