Default Royal Mail delivering great service

If I miss a mail delivery, I can currently go to the sorting office that is just off a main bus route, has parking for maybe 40 cars and is open early to 1900 through the week and early to 1230 on a saturday. This I find handy.

Got a leaflet this morning...

"We're moving" it says.

It's a bit closer - terrific
Not so easy on the bus - never mind
Parking - next to a bank and a Waitrose - chances are slim
Opening hours - 0630-1230 through the week, 0630-0930 on a saturday

And this is the statement that tipped me over the edge in a Victor Meldrew kinda way...

"This move is part of our continuous drive to deliver great services to customers"

OMFG, WTF? FFS! Grrr
Deliver great services to customers by HALVING your opening hours??? Yeah, right.

Three weeks ago my lovely girlfriend phoned up there customer service number to ask why we only got 2 deliveries a week.
The man on the phone said "I dont know your post man madam but I would suggest you are stretching the truth"
My girlfriend told the man she was not a liar and it was awful as she no alternative for basic post.
The man said " We are not a monopoly you can use any one you want to send letters, I think this proves you should get your facts straight"
I got the guys name.... He will get his!
But it just proves what happens when a company has a monopoly, the treat you like dirt. Roll on deutscha mail getting in the market.

I actively seek out Royal Mail services when buying off the internet.
My experience with them is very good - if I miss a delivery, it a 5 min drive.

However DHL, Sh*tty Link, DPD and the rest are DREADFUL. They can't find our house, they make up excuses (we tried to call - you weren't in - ermm yes we were, you just couldn't find us) and have depots an hour away.

I HATE subsidising banks and the motor industry however I'd more than happily shell out more tax to pay for the reinstatement of a proper postal service again - our local PO shut down last year so while receiving is fine, posting OUT is a real bu66er.

I generally have no problems and will actively avoid mail order companies who use Citylink whenever I can but to relocate, halve your opening hours and call it a better service is delusional.
I'd have had more respect if they'd said due to cost cutting but to say it's making things better?? That's just bollocks.

Hank - agreed. I also hate the way they have tried to hush the fact that a British Institution (the local PO) has been all but obliterated with no advantage to the customer.

I used to be able to send stuff from 250 yards away. I now have to drive 2 miles into town, pay to park then queue up for ages. Now that IS annoying...

The Royal Mail are great in my area, so considerate in leaving all my parcels at the depot and opening up at the crack of dawn for about 10 milliseconds.
Why deliver the mail when you can get the customer to come to you - t***ers

our local postman rarely turns up before 12 noon, the other day was 3:30pm!!! There was a time where the post used to be on the door mat when we woke up in the morning.

On the bright side, if something doesnt get delivered the depot is a 10 minute walk away. Miss a delivery from any of the major couriers and its a trip to Trafford Park or Stoke!
