Getting a Passport ...
I have to say that I'm impressed -- I have just been summoned to America on Sunday only to realise that my passport expired the other day.
So I call up at midnight, get a real person and have an appointment for 2:45pm on Friday. Of course I will pay £114 for the pleasure, but still pretty good service.

Thanks Markus,I forgot about that as I filled it in a few weeks ago for my old passport.
I would imagine I'll be flagged as a 'threat' as I will be travelling two days after receiving a new passport as I don't believe their system links passports.

You'd certainly need to add a new entry/record, whatever it is on the system as the passport number will be different, and I think you're right, they don't link passports.

Steve,
Pop on over here. There is an "update" section, where you can check/modify an existing auth, so that might allow you to change the passport number. You will need your old passport number though.

I will clarfiy something which normally means I'm going to make some awful statement: I'm not a racist, I'm married to a Polish girl
BUT at the passport office there wasn't a single person that was speaking English. I'm not sure if everyone new has to attend an interview or something? It was just quite surprising.
The process was quite smooth though as I was seen within 10 minutes of my appointment time and came back a few hours later to pick up my new passport with the rather scary picture (NO smiling, NO looking happy, you WILL grimance menacingly).
