Sky plus HD
I am thinking of geting this as a multi room package, and placing HD in my bedroom as i watch more tv here than anywhere else in the house.
My TV is only a 720p or i (not sure which) but i have heard that sky HD only beams in 720 and not 1080, so is it worth me getting it with my tv? or shall i just stick with getting regular sky plus?

Sky HD can output at 1080i. I find all the HD content looks much better, even the old films remastered into HD look better, as real film has a much higher resolution than most modern digital formats. I believe the sports coverage in HD is much better, but I don't watch it so I'm only passing on comments I've heard. I'm glad I got HD, my old SKY+ box died and it was only £30 more at the time to get HD, than buy a replacement SKY+ box. The only real gripe is the £10 per month on top for HD.

interesting comments here, especially about the £10 a month because thats my main issue. Its not whether i can afford it but whether I'm actually getting much extra i guess..
however having checked the deals, its 50 quid for either box, but 60 to install sky +,and nothing to install sky hd, so essentially its only 60 quid more for the hd part for the year.
Does it seem with it now?

I can't fault it. It all looks crisper, the sound seems better to me as it's going through a direct optical link to my hime cinema.
Obviously if you only have Sky or terrestrial, you now have the added Sky+ record functions which are great for me due to being a shift worker, plus I don't have to buy a DVD/hd/Blu-ray recorder. I don't know how much a dvd/hd recorder costs these days, but for the extra £10 a month it costs me, I've not bothered looing to get one asd everything I want is recorded for me on ther Sky box.

Firstly - the bedroom is for sex & sleeping, not for watching tv
Sky outputs at 720p/1080i - you will notice a difference.
A lot of the content is upscaled and not true HD.
However the difference even in the upscaled stuff is noticible, the native HD stuff is superb - IMO of course
Yeah, the HD installation may be "free", but it'll cost you £120 as its a minimum 12 month contract.

If your into ya prison break and lost then it's good for hd if your into music MTV hd do some brilliant gigs in hd. Also there's a noticble difference on the channel4 hd stream.I would get it as it's really cheap ATM I paid £300 for my box!
Also if you get it your future ready for more hd content to be released.

I have recently got Sky HD+. It does produce 1080i amd with my 1080p TV the picture quality is well worth the extra £10 a month. I watch a lot of sport and and have not regretted changing even though earlier I did not think it would be worth the extra.

Makes me laugh when people moan about the £10 charge it's £10 a month ffs. You'd proberbly spend that a rubbish in a month.it's a service you pay for and Imo a good service if you can find a better service in HD i'd like to know.
your paying for a box at £50 which we buy in for £230+vat of course sky are going to charge monthly which they've done to make it affordable to the general public . When they first came out they was £300 so they've made it affordable to you.people seem to forget there getting a £300 box for £50 if you include the service £170 so theoretically you are getting the service free
It was all the same when they charged for the recording facility.

There's not a massive amount of HD content yet, but what there is is very quality. But the best thing for me is the fact that non-HD channels look better than a non-HD box (probably due to a mixture of HDMI and upscaling).
I agree with the comment about remastered films above. Strangely, films from the 80's seem to work best on HD. Beverly Hills Cop and Big look awesome in HD

Sky HD is well worth the £10 a month now if you have the sports and tv package. The films look great. the football is immense. If anybody watched the United game last night on crap itv then watch the game tonight you will think you've moved forward 20 years. The difference is that stark! Not forgetting the dolby digital sound you get.
Sky broadcast HD content in 1080i. You will only get full 1080p from a bluray player.

Well worth the £10 a month IMHO.
I enjoy many of the progs on Discovery HD and also get a film about once a week on Sky Box Office HD (usually £3.91). Films on SBO HD are excellent quality, and with the optical out to my amp, get the surround sound as well. £3.91 to watch a film I'll probably only watch once is much better than £20 on a Blu-ray I'll only watch once
Of course, if it is a good film, I may buy the Blu-ray anyway....
HD upscaling of normal SD content works well. Picture quality of normal SD stuff is way better than the output from my old SKy+ box so worth it for that as well.

I have signed up for this but was told I have to wait upto 3 months! Grrr. It has been nearly 6 weeks now so I rang to complain as two of my friends, (one an existing customer, one a new customer) had there's installed within 1 week!
Got told I have to wait another 2 weeks.
Deffo worth the extra though from what I have seen. Just what my Panny Viera has been waiting for!

I am an exsisting customer so some deals dont apply to me.
After thought, I have just gone with sky + as there is a three month wait for HD, plus I dnt think there is enough channels to attract me to it just yet.
Thanks for all the advice though, sky plus gets installed on Monday
