Default Average cost of a decent UPVC front door?

I'm looking to replace my current wooden front door with an equivalent UPVC jobbie.

I've booked a couple of quotes and the first one came out tonight - Safestyle UK.

Door S20 in the link below gives you an idea of what I am after though I will be looking to have patterned, coloured glass in the inserts:

http://www.safestyle-windows.co.uk/doors/harewood/

I've had all the windows done a few years ago so only need the door (why I didn't get it down at the same time as the windows.....?!)

What is the going rate for a fitted, good quality, secure door like the one above and who are the company’s to use and avoid?

Cheers.

Can you supply and fit the door? if not who?

Why wouldn't you use them?

Cheers

(Btw they quoted £750 fitted)

You can't tell me you haven't heard how much of a rip off Safestyle are??

They're the biggest bunch of cowboys around.

Where in the UK are you??

We're in the process of having a new front door iftted but we've opted for the best of the best...a Rock door.

Cost including fitting for the door and matching side panelis £1400.

I paid £900 a few weeks ago for a front door, it was a little more as we opted for a red door, as there is white UPVC cladding on both sides, and wanted to avoid the white blob effect you can sometimes get with UPVC.

Apparently people are breaking into peoples houses round our area by kicking the front door panel in.

Rock door should make them look for a softer target, hopefully.

Just avoid Safestyle mate.

Look for a well respected local installer, ideally a word of mouth recommendation.

Just fitted one for our neighbour, charged him £600 supplied and fitted. His cheapest had been £790 for an equivalent door.

As for Safestyle - Rather you than me!

we got a new back one for £200 it was a mis measure off someone else.

my mate who is a bulider but us one in for £600 in the front, this was a grands worth he reckoned.
it was for a row of terraced houses and one bloke didnt want one.
why dont you hang about where they make them for an hour or two, and get the names of the local fitters.
tbh, you can buy them in wickes and they do seem dead easy to fit.

As well as the quality of the door look at the lock which is fitted in the door, most manufacturers use a brass lock as standard, doesn't matter how good the door is if it has a brass lock as they can be snapped out of the door in less than 20 seconds then the door is easily opened if you know what your doing. Ensure you pay for good quality locks (usually about £40-50)

Try to make sure you get an anti-bumping lock.

Recently, the media has given a great deal of attention to "lock bumping", a procedure that allows criminals to open many common door locks by simply inserting a specially modified key and tapping its end with a mallet or other tool. Along with the media reports, a number of warnings about lock bumping have been circulating via email and online.

The reports and warnings about lock bumping are genuine. Lock bumping, also known as "bump keying" and "key bumping" describes a technique in which an ordinary key can be filed so that, when it is inserted into a door lock and tapped, the internal pins can be jarred in such a way that the lock will open. The majority of pin-tumbler locks currently in use are vulnerable to lock bumping, including those normally found on people's front doors. The technique is simple enough that, with the right knowledge, and a little practice, just about anybody could use it.

Unfortunately, the necessary knowledge is quite freely available on the Internet. There are a large number of easily accessible videos and tutorials that explain in exacting detail how to perform the technique. In fact, there are even sets of bump keys and lock bumping kits available for purchase.

I recon you wont get much change out of £1000 for a good front door.

I used to work for Zenith many years ago and youd be supprised how low you can beat them down. expect to be able to knock any of the big double glazing companies like Staybrite, Everest, Zenith etc. down below half of what they quote you. just be prepaired to sit through a bit of sales crap before you get to the lowest price. as above tho STEER CLEAR of SAFESTYLE they [U]will[U] rip you off.

Lots of low cost doors out there!

But what you want is a decent quality door, not one supplied by the likes of Safestyle and other similar companies!
