Default CCTV

Been the victim of burglary a few times, and using my super sleuth detective skills, it would appear we had another visitor last night, although nothing was taken.

Is there a solution I can connect to my computer? Like a wireless webcam that can be used in the dark?

I'd be keen to know just how often our doors are being checks to see if we have forgot to lock them, and how often people are in our garden.

It is possible to get a tv camera which sees in infra red. Don't know if they make a webcam like that though.

One left a *** butt and a pile of ash for us to discover outside the back door. Was thinking about sending the butt to the police for DNA analysis, but then thought "who am I kidding..." when the MX bike was nicked, they didn't even send someone round!

Why would we attract more scum? Make it look like we've got something worth nicking?

Set up a motion sensing sprinkler system in your garden.
It'll get them wet and it'll alert you to the pikeys in the garden!
I'm not sure if anything exists like that though!

CCTV stuff exists, just look at maplins.co.uk although the cheaper IR stuff doens't have much of a range I don't think.

Yes, on at night and whenever we're not in.
One motion sensitive floodlight to front.
Gate to rear, not always locked....

Will make sure gate is locked from now on though.

Obviously lock the gate, but make sure it is a high one to make it difficult to climb over. Also cover the top of the gate with bandit paint and get a really powerful floodlight at the back. My one lights up the garden like a football pitch, its over 100 foot long and I can see every corner of it when the lights on.

I'm thinking of getting cctv cameras but am just concerned whether this will make people think that I have lots of valuables in the property and so be counter productive.

A big dog is also very helpful, but don't have the time to look after one!

I'm pretty sure they won't see the cameras.

I want one pointing at the back door, as I'm sure they are pulling down on the handle to see if we have left it unlocked. I'm keen to see what they look like!

I went almost bonkers with anger when my car was being targeted. Spent hours looking for a proper lockup garage, sat watching the road at night, etc. It can really consume you. I ended up getting rid of the problem and sold the car - not so handy with a house.

Is a dog out of the question?

As the police to send around a local NSO or community officer and ask them about the smart water too.
Its very easy and very good.

CCTV has come down over recent years - especially the cost of DVR'

Although the cameras here are probably only 420tvl and 1/4 inch this kit is extremely good value for money.

As well as cctv so you can see them, i would want something that wakes me without alerting them so that i can surprise them.

Trouble is, you catch them, batter them then get locked up for it.

rub a very very thin coat of machine oil on your door handle, and then dust some talc on it, if you want to see if anyone has touched it...

dont leave the oil and talc by the back door, or they will cover their tracks!!

Also, if you have to alert the police to any attempted break in, dont forgot to mention they had "what looked like a gun shaped object" in their hand

I set up a system when my house got broken intro last year and they nicked my car. I got it from ebay it has 4 small cameras and a DVR box with 80GB HDD. It has infra red and motion sensors.
I have put one on each corner of the house and run the wires into the loft. I had power in the loft and have then put a wireless sender on the box onto the TV in the bedroom. I think it cost about £300.

A while ago my mate was accused of raping a 17 year old lass, a cousin of his niece. Anywho, lives in a rough area, and his car was targeted a couple times. Bought a infra-red webcam and hooked it up to his laptop to record on a night. The camera was inside but against a window, so passers by knew they were being recorded. Case was dropped when it got to court as the lass accusing basically fcuked her story up and admitted lying. He still records to this day as a precautionary step and hasn't had any trouble since.

Also, when I had my old Scoob keyed, I invested in a normal CCTV camera hooked up to a tv/video recorder set up. Wasn't much good in the dark, so bought a 1000w movement sensitive security light. Thing was this was round the front on the street where the Scoob was parked. Next morning I had environmental health round as I recieved 13 complaints from neighbours saying they couldn't sleep as it flashed all night

Took it down and bought an infra-red light. Did the trick. Sent a few photocopied apology letters to some of the neighbours I like and never had issue with vanadlism since
