Default False Statements - Purgery - How long?

Long story short.

Lass I'm seeing has been having a bit of bother with her ex. The guy was pestering her, banging on her door, and making threats if she didn't take him back.
She got an injuntion on him, which he broke several times, so was arrested for it. Court date announced, and he was back out on bail. Since then he's started sh1tting himself that he's off to jail. Banged on her door the other night threatening her and her children if she didn't drop her statement. She said no. (I wasn't there)

Since then he's smashed her windows and is currently in hospital with a slashed hand after following through. Police have DNA to prove it was him. The arrested him in hospital, but he's given a statement to say that she went round his nephews house (were he's living) and stabbed him. His nephew & brother have both given statements saying the same. Police know it not true.

Just wondering what sort of sentence/fine etc False statements get these days? Not for him (he's going to jail) but his nephew/brother?

He hasn't comitted perjury until he lies underoath in court.

Making a false allegation like that could lead to a charge of (attempting to) pervert the course of justice. Which is about as serious as offences come

If you as you say the police know it's not true then they could just be done for wasting police time.
Pervert is only normally used in extreme cases, where th has been a massive amount of resources used or people wrongly arrested and charged, such as the Shannon Matthews case

Cheers Steve.

It is in court tomorrow, but don't know if they'll have to attend yet.

Girlfriend doesn't even know if she's required to attend to give evidence yet. Police say tomorrow is just to get him put on remand, and court trial date to be set later.

There is a bit of history with this guy and the police. He has been to jail before (when he and girlfriend broke up) for aggravated burgalry. Has a history of fighting with weapons. The other night when he threatened her & kids, he apparently smashed a guy over the head with a beer bottle who just happened to be walking past. Police couldn't prove it was him, but they want him locked up.

Since he's got out, he's robbed from the post office (been charged) fighting (not charged) and threatening a mother & 3 young kids (he's ain't the father)

Nice guy.

Oh yeah, and I'm next apparently

She won't need to go tomorrow, I assume he's still in police custody and has been charged with an offence?

If so he'll be put before the court tomorrow and thepolice will apply for him to be remanded in custody as opposed to bailed until the court date.

Given the numerous severe allegations that shouldn't be an issue, but it's up to the magistrates.

Assuming he is remanded he'll stay in prison until the trial, at which point your gf won't have to attend unless he pleads not guilty.

From experience loads of people get away with cases because witnesses don't turn up, so please make sure she does if she is required. Chances are if he sees her there he'll plead guilty anyway.

Me mate made up a statement to help a friend out and got 2 years for it. The police said if the person who he lied to protect came forward and admitted his charge they would drop the purgery charges. He never came forward

3 young girls - 10, 8 & 2. Grown quite fond of them.

Big man used to hit her when they were together. Infront of kids too.
