5K fine with two years ban, eh! How he will hold his temptation for driving his ferarri? It will be like abstaining from sex for a man, even when Cindy Crawford is ready for it.

Soooooooooooo the judge tells him that had he been doing 150mph (and NOT killing anyone), he'd go to prison, but the peer who DID kill someone doesn't.
So speeding is now a worse crime than careless driving which kills someone
Only under Labour.................

I got nicked in a 850 Polo once "90 and still accelerating", top speed of the 850 Polo, was about 80 ! on a very good day.
Standard Elises arent all that fast past about 50, I blitzed one in a Fiat Coupe Turbo and hadnt expected to, 173 is pie in the sky for an Exige never mind an Elise.

A rather odd case.
Why didn't he get off scott free?
It says he pleaded guilty.
Any lawyers on here who could say why he didn't plead not guilty?
Maybe he is better off pleading guilty and then getting off on appeal?

Watching the video a few things stand out. First is that the police are saying that on the same road they have clocked motorbikes at 200 mph, now bearing in mind how hard it is too get a bike over 180mph I just don't believe it feasable on that road without a turbo and some big big nuts.
Second notable point is that the guy seemed remarkably calm considering that the Police tried to send him to prison for a crime that in theory never happend. I would have gone nuts called the Police liars, denounced the justice system and asked how I could be in court when the only evidence was the opinion of a Policeman and we know they are extremely capable of lieing when t suits them.
Third point, the car was sold to someone in Germany stoping the police from checking for modification. Now when I advertised an elise for sale all the enquiries came from Holland and Germany so it is not unusal for Elises to end up there but still very odd.

Absolutely stupid that it should have gone so far - Dont the CPS decide if there is enough evidence to prosecute in motoring offenses ? If they do then they are clearly not doing their job - or where they hoping that the driver would just fold and take the punishment ?

I drove one of those at Castle Combe and although it handled very nicely, and was quite fast, it is ridiculous to say it was doing 170 odd mph.
He got stung heavily enough for doing 105 mph in a 50 limit, as he deserved.

However I think you'd be shocked at just how easy it actually is to get a modern litre plus sportsbike to 180 mph....

I would hazard a guess the gentleman involved was calm for one of 2 reasons...
1. Hes loaded so £5k won't harm him so bad (plus may have someone to drive him around?)
2. He has Mr Loophole in the wings waiting for an appeal to come through?
The Police prosecution seems hmm, erm.... a little patchy
(Couldn't resist the guitar riff [1:46] in relation to who he was named after)

Depends on what you call modern, my blackbird went to 187 on the clock but in reality was I think it was probably closer to 167mph. My 2000 fireblade struggles to go anywhere over 160 but the newer stuff is clearly a bit faster but by any stratch 180 is not that simple.
