Default Back pain-referred to specialist, this is not good is it?

Some of you will remember my back problems earlier this year, a trapped nerve was diagnosed.
However, two weeks back I went back to the doctor as I was still experiencing lots of pain and numbness in my left arm. I still am. He referred me to the hospital for blood tests and a spinal x-ray.

Today, I have a letter from my GP telling me to book a hospital apointment to see a neurosurgeon, as I have, "confirmed degenerative changes" at the bottom of my cervical spine, plus a low white blood cell count.

I'm in to see him tomorrow, but it's not looking good is it?

not necessarily, i think most (if not all) of the consultants are surgeons so wouldn't worry too much about this.

no idea on the blood count i'm afraid, and degenerative discs aren't great. at least you'll know the full story tomorrow

chin up

Why would you even be remotely worried ?

The quicker I saw a 'specialist' and not some humdrum doctor the better in my opinion. It just shows that they are taking it seriously instead of fobbing you off with some brufen etc

Aye, I suppose, we'll see what the doc says tomorrow when he hopefully explains what might be wrong.
Meanwhile, the NHS "Ring up and book" service failed again: I got the letter telling me to do so today, but guess what? No appointments yet released, so it has to wait.

Still, now I don't count as being on a waiting list, so another Labour target has been met.

if your going to see the back doc, then (touchie to ask a lady this) but even if your a little overweight, the first words out of their mouths will be "Your overweight, its your weight"

I had this when I went to the doc with my back - took the tablets, lost a little weight and in the mean time went to live in Japan. Japanese doctor, says "nothing to do with weight" operation 4 days later and been mostly fine since.

As Swiss said, the sooner a proper specialist gets to examine you, the quicker they will be at sorting it out. Being referred to him does not mean that he won't be able to cure it quickly and easily.

Hope it all goes well.

Getting to see the neurosurgeon thats the hard part. I mentioned on your last thread how long my dad was waiting.

Then if they need to send you for a MRI thats another long wait. After that your in operated on & out the next day.

Fingers crossed you dont have same experience as us.
