Recommend me a good book
Ok, off on my well deserved hols next month and its about the only time I get to read a book. Can anyone recommend some? I need two
1) Something very light hearted, easy to read, preferably funny
2) Something a little more serious, but not depressing. Perhaps non fiction, semi educational almost?
Thanks

If you like autobiographys then Sir Ranulph Fiennes is good, Tony Cascorinos is good and Sir Bobby Charltons is good.
Also a book called "not another love letter", cant remember the authors name. Its about a war correspondents travels in war zones since mid 90's.

for no2: id recommend
The memoir of a battle of britain ace.
Lifes to short to cry - Tim Vigors DFC
very humbling and honest (yes he was teaching some new recruits and HE managed to forget about deplying the undercarriage for landing!!!)
or Peter Richley - Fighter Pilot.
both books contain none of the far-fetched SAS crap of today!!!

For No.1, anything by John O'Farrell ... excellent author and consistently funny / engaging. Even his books about being a political party member are funny!! Think i've read pretty much everything by him and would recommend the lot without doubt, always annoying my missus by laughing away to myself when we're on hols (i.e. the only time I read books!!)

This is good.
I'm halfway through it and it's a bit of an eye opener into the world of corporate Japan.
Profile Books :: Blue-Eyed Salaryman :: Niall Murtagh
Can't help with book #2 though.
I don't do 'serious.

The shock doctrine by Naomi klein, a real eye opener. A non fiction book but a book I think everyone should read. FOr light hearted pap I would suggest ask somone else I hate to waste time by reading books that are just made up stuff whats the point ? Also the Long Walk to Freedom by Nelson Mandela, one of those books thats leaves you filled with inspiration and will help you come back from holliday full of vim and vigour.

Thanks.
I'm edging for the Shock Doctrine for serious.
Light hearted looking at John O' Farrell. Has anybody read the 'impartial history of Britain'?
Thanks again, any other suggestions welcomed

Sniper One by Dan Mills, gripping throughout Sniper One: The Blistering True Story of a British Battle Group Under Siege: Amazon.co.uk: Dan Mills: Books
Fred by David Hall, a Fred Dibnah biography, https://www.waterstones.com/watersto...do?sku=4948139 (mine has a different cover but I think it's the same book, very good read)

The Guvnor - Lenny Mclean - This is also a quality read
Couple of books by Charlie Owen, especially if you were around in the 1970's. Very much in the Life on Mars fold.

I really cannot stress how much I think everyone should read the shock doctrine it lets you know pretty much all you need to about disaster capitalism the reasons behind USA'a more dubious acts and the economic theory that underpins them.

Ok
1) Shock doctrine (mainly because I'd like to understand more about geopolitical economics)
2) The Sniper, because its had three votes
3) Can anybody else vouch for the O'Farrel book, history of Britain?
Sorry, on principle I won't buy books that benefit violent criminals, so the Guvnor is out!
