Recording pay per view...
If you record pay per view channels such as Setanta will it record ok onto video tape due to the encryption on the broadcast? By the time it hits the video recorder surely it's already been decrypted by your viewing card so should record fine?
Also are there any equivalents to a Sky+ box if you don't have Sky that you can go and buy off the high street?
I've got to miss the football this afternoon and so need to get a solution in place that will record it so I can watch it as soon as I get home. I've got an old video recorder and a video capture card on a PC I can plug the TV into. But thinking its time to get a Sky+ type recorder.

OK thanks hadn't thought of it like that, only thought of it the same as a video recorder. So they basically record themselves, i.e. the freeview tuner built into them as opposed to the freeview tuner built into my telly?

Broadcasts can still have copy protection after decryption by your box.

Cheers for the replies. Only wanted a box that will record what's on the TV tuner with series link as opposed to having a new device with a tuner as well. I always want stuff that doesn't exist
If what I want is expensive I might as well just subscribe to Sky's basic package and get the Sky+ box thrown if and when that deal returns.

Edit: just going through the Sky deal and looks like I don't have to have them
Don't understand the quidco thing through as what would that £75 be used for or how do you get it?
Also does anyone know if the free sky+ box offer is still on for existing customers to recommend a new customer and both get a free + box? My Dad has sky but with the old original Sky box and would like to get him the free upgrade if that offer still exists.

Cheers Dunk, do you have to have the broadband and calls to get the offer though as I don't want those bits? Also no idea how to use quidco lol (yes will get round to reading up on it eventually) so what will that £75 be for if the Sky+ deal is free?

When I got my box I phoned and said I was going to cancel, this got an upgrade to Sky+ for £49. Was about a year or so ago though.

Cheers. I think the free sky+ if you get a friend to subscribe deal involved the friend or family member etc having a setup cost so not as good a deal as the above.
Ok I better sign up to quidco then as was just going through the Sky link but hadn't got as far as giving them my details yet.

Cheers Dunk, signed up this afternoon. Although apparently Sky got wise to it yesterday and allegedly pulled the plug some time today, i've currently got £50 showing in Quidco but I can expect that get taken away in the next few days apparently. Still got the free sky+ box and installation though
