Default Any dental practioners on here, need some advice..

As per the title, any dentists/dental surgeons on here who can give me some advice?

Quite a number of years ago I suffered some pretty horrific injuries to my head and face.. managed to recover after a year however my jaw and teeth were a bit fooked.

I made the mistake of going through NHS back then and ended up with a bodge job on my teeth and misdiagnosis by the then halfwit who worked on my teeth.

Basically ended up with caps/repair work on my front teeth and side teeth that resulted in my teeth rotting away/becoming weak on the inside due to dead roots/vessels etc from the injuries.

Recently the front teeth gave way so now I have 4 teeth missing and left wondering what to do. I work in an environment where I need to communicate a lot so this has seriously dented my confidence.

When I was in Sydney I had some false dentures made up that worked great however the false teeth/thingie just wore out as they were only temporary.

So need some advice, should I get a new set made until I can get myself booked in for some major work or avoid em as they cause problems?

And with regards to surgery, I have had some crazy quotes but most seem to think I need my damaged teeth removed and titanium bolts fitted with new teeth - ouch... Can I do activities like Boxing & Grappling with these or are they likely to get damaged from being smacked about inside my gum shield?

Fanks and I should really be in bed but need my 24 fix!

"titanium bolts fitted with new teeth" being implants are generally the best (most expensive) option.
I can't imagine dentist recommending any activity where you get punched in the face regardless of your dental health.
I would think most would recommend going with a removable denture whilst doing these sports and then going the implant or fixed bridge route when you've moved on.
Having said that - if you had implants with crowns made of a weaker material that fractured relatively (to implant) easily, it would probably mean just getting new crowns on the implants, so.........

Any implantologists out there?

I'm a consultant in restorative dentistry, so helping fix teeth after trauma is my Job

What's your local hospital called and I'll do some digging

Milton Keynes Hospital... it was a long time ago and MK Hospital stopped offering this kind of work - the place is a shambles mate.

Nat21 I had the same issue, my jaw was fractured in two places along the top and I had a fractured cheek bone while my bottom jaw had fractured and is not straight ever since.

To compound matters even more I was born with abnormally lined teeth my upper teeth did not close down on my lower teeth properly.

Jaw heals up very quickly actually so you should be fine provided you don't put any stress on it early on and it ends up a lot stronger but I recommend you check its healed straight (unlike mine).

Yeah I was gonna go perma fixtures but I have been told by a few people its not recommended if you do boxing/contact sports and also a health & safety risk if you want to do any proper fights.

I think I am gonna get removable dentures made as my current gum shield is custom made to fit to my teeth and protect the area where my teeth are missing, don't wanna go down the route of getting a new gum shield made up to mould around new fixtures and then hassle of relearning to get used to the gum shield in sparring/fights.

I wanna get one cage fight and/or open ring fight done before 2010 at heavy middle weight (been wanting to do an amateur fight for ages) and then call it a day and get perma fixtures put in.

Btw are there any known problems with permanent fixtures and do you need to replace em after a certain amount of time?

Yeah good call, I have been to Northampton GH a few times and always got a good service.

First I need to go the local dental practice and chat to the dental surgeon there - he did my brothers teeth and got thumbs up from my bro so going to speak to him and get an idea of kind of work is involved.

I will probably speak to Northampton GH as well to see what options I have - after the fights etc I am going to get some of the work done here in the UK and then either go to Spain or India to get the work done there for cheap money.

I got quoted £8000 from a practice in Leighton Buzzard... do you get teeth with bluetooth and wifi.. nuts!

Sorry about the late reply......just go to get all the the kids in bed LOL

On the NHS, Implants are co-ordinated by people like me and not the surgeons

So the person you need to speak to for help and advice given your history of major trauma is one of my mates

I've looked at my professional website.. for colleagues in your area and it's being flakey

Restorative Dentistry, Restorative Hospital Dentist, Specialist Consultants

Just ask for a referal to your local consultant in Restorative Dentistry who is involved in an NHS Implant service......"choose and Book" will be able to give details, as can your dentist.
