I couldn't find the actual story, but did he lose the eye or what?

Surgeons said Pc Nash was lucky to be alive. He was discharged after three days and has retained some sight in the eye, which he hopes will eventually return to normal.

The story . The stick didn't penetrate the eyeball but passed below it. Hopefully he will regain full sight.
The most upsetting part of the story; "
The 20-year-old suspect John arrested was later released without charge. "
