Default So, who will be the next Stig?

Seeing as Ben Collins has almost officially been outed. Rather than guess who the next Stig is when he's appointed, i thought we could anticipate who it will be. Kudos to whoever predicts the right man!

For once, I enjoyed it last night. The stumpy munter was kept away from anything sporty, instead taxi-ing Bill Bailey around in a chip-fat powered Merc. The geeky student wasn't as annoying as usual advising on buying drop-tops in winter. Tiff was having a ball drifting a £140k Gallardo on ice and the two fat hairy ones weren't too bad, although the new one is unnecessary. They didn't do anything too silly trying to emulate TG, which improved their show considerably. If only TG would take notice and reduce the level of cocking about and add more car stuff I might start liking that again

Top Gear is top entertainment telly, not a factual car review programme, which is why it is good.

Except it's not good any more. It easily could be, but last season was the worst they've done IMHO. During the entire run they featured just 17 cars. In season 1 episode 8 there was NINE alone. I have the whole run on my PVR and have yet to re-watch any, and I am a TG rerun addict on Dave, yet not one of last seasons shows caught my attention. My feelings aren't unique either, as many over on Final Gear echo my opinion. For their wages and the BBC's coffers they obviously prefer to attract 8m kids and girls to watch the show rather than 5m car nuts. I suppose it is a 'CAR' show after all

You're missing the point cboy. It's not about reviewing cars It's about cocking about and entertainment

And as far as a few internet warriors on some forum agreeing with you, it hardly stacks up against the millions of viewers that TG get.

But it shouldn't be. There are far better scripted (or not) comedy programmes on TV. Shows that make people laugh constantly.

FWIW I think TG's humour should come almost by accident. That's why everyone flocked to the new show when it restarted in 03? The races are brilliantly filmed (or as Clarkson says far too often "Epic" ) but they have very little obvious humour, just little events that are funny. James when they were on the boat to Norway and he clinked Hammonds glass and said "to our future" or when there was those 2 girls "hello"

YouTube - James May - Start with hello

It CAN be spontaneous and funny. But I think theres a real danger of them disappearing up their own posterior. Wizards Sleeve and Pork Sword are a bit too stupid. They need to remember their core audience. Which in fairnes Wilman has said thats the aim.

Why not? It's not supposed to be a comedy, it's light entertainment. Some people take the whole which motoring program is best, way too seriously
