Default Medical folk, heel problem advice

No I dont mean the Telboy kind of heel advice

But this

Basically it hurts when I put pressure on it, and it is quite a cheesy kind of smell to it too

Ive been to the Chemist and they suggested Surgical Spirits which I have been using but it hasnt really made much difference

He said its not Fungal, Atheletes foot or an infection, it hasnt spread and localised to just the heel on my left foot, and doesnt make any difference what shoes, socks or trainers I wear either

Any ideas what it could be, so I can get something for it

It feels like a blister that has popped, but there is no loose skin and it doesnt look like a blister of any kind either

LOL

Since posting that pic, my heel has now gone mostly red in the crescent shape, and quite tender

Looks fungal to me. Try an antifungal cream.

Thanks John

The Pharmacist said he was certain it wasn't fungal, but then he is also isn't a Doc

I have tried Cannisten (sp?) and Sudocrem neither have made any difference, I tried a blister plaster too which did actually help, but more with just making it comfortable to walk on

That white, soggy, smelly surface with redness around/underneath does look fungal to me. Fungal infection on feet is so incredibly common it is a good place to start. There are other non-prescription anti-fungals available which may be worth a go eg terbinafine/lamisil, miconazole/daktarin. I would avoid putting a steroid like hydrocortisone on feet when a fungal infection is possible, as used without an antifungal it could make things worse.

Another possibility is a bacterial infection, but usually that would have surrounding redness and yellow/green discharge. Plantar dermatosis can give dramatic redness and cracking of the sole.

If further antifungals don't work, see your doc.

LOL LG, yes I do stink most of the time

John again thanks for the advice, like I said it was a pharmacist not a Doc who thought it wasn't fungal and he suggested surgical spirits to start with

Its not actually canneston that I have used, it was Clotrimazole (1%) Cream

The white soggy smelly surface was because I had just taken my socks off and bathed my feet, about an hour later it had dried to be deep red, and what looked like beads of sweat (although quite possibly could be clear discharge)

Im nipping to the chemist shortly so will see what they have in that might help

My main concern is that Im going to New York in a few days so will be doing a large amount of walking, so ideally want it treating with something now

It happened before xmas on my last day at work (working in a chemist ironically) and probably because I was off work it seem to clear up until I went back to work this week

Its not really painfull when it is damp, but once it starts drying out it does get quite uncomfortable without any pressure applied

Canesten is a brand name for clotrimazole.

Pharmacists are often very useful for advice, I'm not knocking them, just that I do think it could well be fungal, or plantar dermatosis (which a prescription only antibiotic like doxycycline may help, along with emollients to soften the dry skin).

Scouse trenchfoot.

Need to let the air at it, try walking about with the old FlopFlips on.

If anything it will stop you worrying about your heel and divert your attention to your blue toes.

Went to the Chemists again and had another chat with them, I have now got some blister gel plasters (which really eased the pain last time) and some Clotrimazole AF spray as its my heel and if I go to work the cream isnt very good with socks on

Ill phone the docs monday morning if there is no change between now and then, as the pharmacist said I may need something stronger

They still recommended using surgical spirit as well to help dry out the skin
