Default Anybody watching the bbc news?

Some **** in a freelander skidding down a hill into a bush.

Bet they bought it because "it'll be safer in the winter"

NO - learning to drive or staying at home is safer, not just buying a pseudo off roader.

Yes, just watched on there. The driver obviously hasn't got a clue how to drive in the conditions. Too fast, wrong gear, and just how much use do they think brakes are going to be on ice?

It's all to do with tyres. The best car to be in this weather would be an old crappy Fiesta or Polo with proper winter tyres.

It's not hard for those of us who drove in the bad winters, with rear wheel drive, in the 1960's and 1970's on cross-ply tyres .........

Actually SSU is right up to a point. If you want to make any sort of real progress on a gradient covered with ice then letting the air out of your tyres will do the trick providning you drive very slowly but once you are back on a surface with any sort of grip you will need to reinflate them.

Yes, that factual programme with three bell ends in it renouned for contrived 'factual events'. Drive any considerable distance on flat tyres and you won't make it too far on British roads in winter. Yes, running a low psi will get you out of trouble but it'll **** your tyres!

Run a light crapper on thin winter tyres for the conditions the Freelander was in.

Dont know about the drivers, but the planks on derwent water made me laugh.

How many times do you have to spell it out to people that walking on frozen

ponds/ water is asking for trouble!!

Trouble is, they all see ice road truckers and think its safe...cos lorrys go on

the ice..

But thats ice thats 12" thick and in -40c temperatures.

sheeesh

I always find that driving in the wet or on ice is great fun and it does not wear the tyres out!
