Another teacher training day - more time off
Our primary brkoe up on the 19 and by rights should start back today - ofd course, another TTD which means the kids are off for another day and one of us has to take a day off to cover it.
Now i am sure the teachers all need thisa training and how could this possiblty take place during the 11 or so week days alloted to this years' Christmas holidays - God forbid!
having been in my job for a few months i have used up my entitlement already over christmas covering days of holiday - jenny has used most of hers covering holidays as well. We do not mind and yes it is great to spend time with the kids. Grandparents are all working as well and we do not likew to palm our daughter off.
It just seems a little rough that we either pay £40.00 to s child minder or take more time off to cover yet another TTD.
working in the private sector i do not have the luzuries of trianind days, we trian on the job so to speak or are taken out in groups to attend training so as not to interupt the workflow - surely this is better and why not arriange cover for thos teachers accordingly or even take it duing the long holidays - is there a problem with doing this???
Not looking for a row or an argument more something to back up why teachers have it this way and pretty much everybody else does not thats all.

My wife only gets 4 weeks hols and because I'm in Afghanistan over the summer hols I have had to cover all the school hols. They have another TTD after the February half-term term here and expect there'll be one at Easter as well.
I don't remember teachers having these days off when I was at school.

They have tacked one onto the front of the Feb half term which I am gutted about as I'd saved 5 days for the half term holiday and now got to go cap in hand around to people to see if anyone can look after her for that 1 day - I don't have enough holiday as my year runs April-March.....
Teachers do have stressful jobs and I understand the need for training days, but please, can't they do it in term-time?

hmm, sounds a little defensive...
I think that depends on how much holiday i get, i get 21 days in total which i fit in around school holidays, Jenny has 24 days does the same and luckily some of the days coincide so we have a little holiday time as a family
How many days' holiday entitlement does the everage teacher get then???
Also, if this is all holiday then why do teachers go into work or state that they work during these breaks.
I am thinking of instituting a parent training day where i take my daughter out of school during term time and we go on day trips/holiday or such or at least i would if i had any holiday enttitlement left

Or as has been said before, just do what the REST OF THE WORLD does and arrange training for different teachers at different times so that cover can be arranged and the school can remain open.

I work in the private sector, and I get training courses. If you don't, get a better job/Work for a better company.
Am I expected to go on said training days during weekend/holidays?
Nope.
Teachers have it the same as everyone else.

So then you mean that rather than take training and get cover for them, they just take time out then istead of doing the sensible and logical thing that most other countries accept as the correct approach

How did teachers and schools cope before TTD's?
Can someone please tell me the average holiday allowance for an 'average' teacher?

Teachers get the same holidays as the kids
I would suggest you go into a school on a TTD and see what is actually being done
Perhaps your opinion might change

I live next door to two teachers, neither of them has prepared a lesson plan in at least a decade
It's not rocket science, it doesn't take a genius to work out that, mild tweaking aside, one year's lesson plan will work perfectly well for the following year's intake
If you've not even got the brains to figure that out, what the **** can our nations youth expect to learn from you :

Glad that they are in .......
There is a certain number of Directed Hours for a Teacher .... what is that per week?
Is it 1265 hours per year?

Either the teachers have the same holidays as the kids, or as we're told, they do preparetary work during the school holidays. So what's the problem with putting the TTD in the normal School holidays - appartently the teachers are working anyway, so just do the TTD then.
I do genuinely think that the teachers are on training (and not just taking the day off), but I completely fail to see any argument that says the TTD had to be in term time.

We do a great deal of staff training. We stagger it to ensure that there is cover, we don't close down the whole site while we do it.
