will this work......?
i want to put a Long Eared Owl or a Periguine (sp)Falcon on my house roof to stop pigeons eating everything in my garden.
i got the idea from a plastic owl in the news, it was put on a telegraph pole to stop other birds settling.
has anyone else done something similar and what were the results?
waits for the answers in trepadation

Thin the RSPB may have a thing or two to say about putting a Long Eared Owl or Peregrine Falcon on top of you house. Would you attach it with some kind of tether or something so it can still fly about a bit?

If I were a bird and there was a HUGE owl on the roof I wouldn't go anywhere near it!
That help?
Hey, great idea, if you get the Sunday tabloids check out the free magazine, there are normally some garden black cut out cats for sale with shiny eyes! Enough to keep any feathery thing away.

i have seen some 18" to 2ft high plastic models. if you get the right bird of prey surely it will work
i get millions of pigeons on my roof crapping all day then they gorge themselves on whatever i grow.
am i legally allowed to do this?
i know the cat things work in gardens but i bet a decoy bird works much better

i heard good things about our little plastic friends, just dont go with an audible deterrent, as it will scare all birds away (unless you want that of course!)

Our old office manager did this in our old premises, he got one of the plastic owls and stuck it on the 6th floor balcony to prevent crows etc pecking on our mirrored black glass windows (they were looking at their own reflections) and causing a hassle (and amusement)for clients in meetings....
Anyway, it didn't work and we have a classic photo of one crow looking at the plastic owl from about 2 inches with an inquisitve 'tilted head kind of look' !!!
In short, they don't work too well

crows are more feisty than pigeons. in the summer we had a Kite fly over for a few days in a row and the garden was a silent as a fart in a bottle
i only want to get rid of the pigeons not everything.
i have even looked up the rules on shooting pigeons, its not illegal but it probably is in your back garden

You've never burned that rocking horse!
A lot of people use those plastic owls round here to keep the seagulls off their houses and boats. Seems to work so it might be worth your while to try it.
