"The biggest piece of money was about an inch square... It is a massive jigsaw puzzle."

If he decides to give it a go he will weigh about 4 stone and be as pale as a crack head holidaying in Greenland by the time he leaves his house again..

That's 15,000 pieces minimum

Doesn't he "just" need the serial numbers to swap for a nice crisp note?

There is a machine in existsance which takes shreds of paper, scans them, and re-arranges them automatically.

He could use this machine, simple number each piece and the computer will tell him which bits go together very quickly.

They used this recently on german documents shredded when we invaded in WWii. Apparently it got alot of high up germans scared with what they would find

Nice find but would you really want to mess about with all that?

I saw a program years ago, and the bank of England do have specialists who can do this for you.

They were piecing together notes that had been burned.

Maybe it's some joker who's loaded. He's gone and cut all the serial numbers off 10k's worth of cash and then left the rest cut up in a bin bag for someone to "find".

Oh how disappointed that binman's going to be when he's pieced them all together again
