Dave Weckl - Drum Maestro
Any drummers on here?
My lad, James (guitarist, not drummer), is off to see Dave Weckl tonight playing in Brighton.
Should be good

He's so good its almost boring, i.e. mechanical. I dont mean that in derogatory way my old drum teacher (who was damn good and used to play with the drifters) used to say that about him. Got a couple of vids of his, pretty incredible stuff.

He's outstanding, but I understand the comments above. Almost lacks a bit of soul; feel, maybe. Perhaps it's just that God-awfully dry cheesetastic funk-jazz he bashes along to.

Take this..
YouTube - Dave Weckl Drum Solo (II)
and then listen to Tony Royster at 12 and this, whilst technically less adept, seems to enthral me more.
YouTube - amazing drum solo
ETA...the groove just after 6:10 always gets me bobbing my head like a mother feckin' brother...

Thanks for the links guys. James really enjoyed the evening
It was in a fairly small venue in Brighton and really a showcase for some new drum kit that Yamaha have brought out named Phoenix. 2 hours for £12 so good value although that would be more than I could take dl

I've not heard of him before David, but if he's as talented as Carl Palmer or Cozy Powell then he should be in for a treat.
