Default 12 v batteries - questions ??

Anyone advise me on the following ?? am looking to purchase a small 12 volt couple off amps battery for a small project I am doing within the house, the battery will be being used more off a back up supply more than anything just wonder what type off battery holds the best charge without actually being used / constanly charged up ?? are some types off 12 volt batteries any better than others at holding there charge ??

the type I am looking at are these :

1.3 Amp 12 volt burglar alarm battery intruder on eBay, also, Burglar Alarms, Safety Security, Home Garden (end time 22-Nov-08 09:53:05 GMT)

roughly speaking how long would a battery like the above stay charged without being used ??

Sealed lead acids are good for a few months, but they do self discharge, the rate of which depends on room temperature, and if its been allowed to discharge excessivey previously (if its left discharged for any length of time, its overall capacity is reduced).

the actual battery will be outside but still enclosed, any idea if outside temperatures will speed up the discharge process ??

Lead acid batteries do lose their charge, about half in 3 months. If it's just as a backup, you can but a battery conditioner on it can't you? What's the project? Will you have mains power normally?
