Default 'Speeding' drivers should pay up even if they go to court and win, say ministers

So if you go to court and they fail to find you guilty (remember you're supposed to be innocent unless they can prove otherwise) they still consider you to be guilty and will charge you costs.

Could this be to stem an increase in people challenging suspect speeding charges rather than just rolling over. Do they realise the courts could become totally clogged dealing with suspect speeding fines and so they just want you to accept the fine regardless?

What next?

Pay your own costs if you are accused of Murder?
Yes, ok, we got it wrong, you're innocent. That'll be £150k please.

The number of drivers who go to court to defend themselves from traffic fines is a symptom of New Labour's spiteful and larcenous policy of blanketing the roads with inflexible and indiscriminate law enforcement devices.

Having developed a scheme to operate the law for profit, the powers that be are now furious that some of their victims dare to defend themselves in court and, worse still, diminish HMG's income.

Is it not true then?
I know the mail tends to raise these constitutional issues rather regularly and give them prominance but I'm not aware of them being untrue.

What a non-story.

"Ministers said yesterday". What ministers? There's one single junior minister quoted, and it's just his opinion.

It's a shame that the Mail's journalists have to be so lazy and sensationalist about everything, because behind the stupid headline is a far more insidious story

What the Ministry of (in)Justice paper is actually proposing is the withdrawal of an acquitted defendant's right (in any criminal case) to claim back costs should they have had the audacity to hire competent legal representation of their own choosing

Given the State Security Services' conduct in the Menezes case, would you want to rely on an over-worked court appointed representative to be bothered confront them

It is reported that the junior minister has recommended this action in the consultation paper. In other words it has been proposed officially which means it could well be taken up. Any way they can penalise a motorist is fair play to these clowns and this is a proposal to kill yet another of our rights which has been embedded in our justice laws up to now.

If they think they can get away with it, they will of course do it since we know that they have no interest in the welfare or fair play applied to the people if what they have thought up is for their own convenience.

If this is not fought against and won-things can only get worse!
