I can only speak personally, but if I actually did this I would sell my car, and hand myself in to the local stupid farm.

Errm ........ confession time. Good few years ago I lived in Ledbury - smallish place. Had a flat over some shops on the high street.
It was wash day and I was taking my stuff to the launderette up the road. It was pi**ing down so went across to the carpark and took my trusty Transit.
Came out went home and all was well. Next morning went to the carpark and no van S**t somone has nicked it. Walked down the road round the corner and reported the theft at the Police station.
As it was a van and there was a few undesirables passing through the area they advised a walk round just in case.
I set off up the high street and as soon as I saw the launderette I realised what I'd done. Sure enough just round a corner in a side road was my van durrrr.
When I came out of the launerette it was glourious sunshine and so as most weeks I walked home.
Went to my mates Mum's shop over the road and rang the cops - thay just laffed.

My friend has done the same, he live down the road from me so usually walks up when he visits.
This time he was passing in the car so parked up. He left later on, forgetting to take the car. I noticed after he had gone, and left it thinking he'd come back and take it.
Next day it was still infront of my house, so I rang him asking, "you forgotten something when you left yesturday, mate?" I strung he along for a few mins making him guess, before I told he forgot to take his sodding car. Muppet, LOL.
