My instincts told me it was dodgy saving in a foreign country, whose people and culture you dont understand, for a measly few extra quid.

Lesson 1. Alaways trust your instincts.

I like ING Direct and I have my mortgage with them. It was just a slight surprise that Kaupthing suddenly went. I thought they were 'safe', especially the UK arm.

thats good news, my parents have the maximum amount split between both of them saved with them. just rang and told them, they were quite happy

I can still withdraw cash from Kaupthing if I wish, so everything seems to be operational.
