The missus and I are off to Dublin for a long weekend in August courtsey of mega cheap flights from Ryanair, £60 return for the pair of us from Prestwick. Any cheap (cos she's a student and I'm tight) and comfortable hotels in the centre of Dublin worth looking at? Any worth avoiding?

Stayed at the Burlington a few years ago on business, discovered the only way to get a picture on the TV was to have the bathroom light on

Still they did let us drink Guiness in the hotal bar to the very early hours

Don't listen to Matrix, Dublin is a great city

We stayed in Kelly's last year, and it was a laugh a minute. My room had a shower built for children (the shower head was level with my chin!) the bathroom room was colasping, a window that wouldn't shut, with a crack in the glass....i could go on.
A friend booked a room with en-suite, and eventually found it behind a wardrobe door!!!
And don't even ask about the couch in the 'lounge'!!!

It was quite easy to find from temple bar though, used to take us about an hour of walking round in circles.

Going back in november, but not stopping in kelly's again.

Phil.

Cool

Just got back from a few days in Dublin at the Shelbourne. Very nice but glad that the company was paying and not me.

Is it compulsory for every Dublin cabbie to be a comedian as well? Or was i just lucky??

Crapaud - there are two brands of Dublin taxis. Comedians and psyhcos. I think they all start as comedians and then the Dublin traffic turns them into psychos after a number of years. I got a taxi with a guy once whose entire vocabulary consisted of the words f*ck and bas**rd. He politely greeted every other road user with a unique combination of the two

I can recommend the Trinity Arch Hotel. Stayed there with work on a cough *Business Trip* cough. It's got a huge bar downstairs and its smack bang in the middle of the town.

Here are a few websites to check out

Have a nice time, its a great city apart from the traffic. Watch your self. There are nutters.

Ashling Hotel is only average

You could try the Mount Herbert but it's a bit further out (near Lansdowne Road stadium).

www.mountherberthotel.ie

I've also stayed at the Jurys Custom House whose only advantage is it's cheap. The other Jurys in Dublin look pretty good from the outside.

I think your opinion of Dublin is coloured by the circumstances of your visit. It's great if you want to go out and get pissed, but I took the missus and kids (missus doesn't drink) and there's not a lot else to do in the evenings. Went down the coast a bit (some good views), did the tour, etc. I'd probably go again.
