Default Speeding

I drove past a scamera van yesterday and I glaced at the speedo to see I was doing say 43/44 in a 40mph zone. Would this be a ticket offence or would I be below the limit allowing for speedo error ???

I guess up to 50 on a Subaru speedometer in a 40 will be OK.
I just know I am gonna get shouted at for saying this!
However I practice what I preach and have never been flashed by a camera.

Probably be safe, especially if your going off the speedo reading as they tend to over read in the first place

Most speedos overread (and in some cases underread) by at least 5mph mate, you'll be fine.

I thought that the advice to police forces was 10% + 2 over the limit as an allowance. I don't think that all forces follow that though.

That's an ACPO guideline, Les, and police forces don't have to follow it.

I know of at least two people here in North Lincs, (part of the Humberside safety camera scam), who've been done for 31mph in a 30 limit, when the scammers were having a crackdown.

Mine's 1% out compared to GPS, so sat-nav and speedo, and GPS are all within 2%.

LOL

DunxC

P.S. Just means I know I'm speeding ! Naughty.... but I save it for Blyton, or did till it closes.

think it depends on whos behind the camera. My dad drove past a camera van on the M5 speedo showing 90mph, he thought 'oh s**t' but when the letter came through the post it was only a warning ..

then earlier this year a friend of ours was banned for six months for 12 points on his licence, all the points were from speed cameras and each time he was caught doing like 34 or something, by the time the court case came up he had 6 points that had expired but they didn't take that into account .....

Yes I thought it was general guidance too Alcazar, and for good reason too since radar or laser guns cannot be said to be 100% accurate and in fact can be a long way out.

I think people being done for one mph over the limit is shameful and cannot be justified.

You laugh but I do know a copper who does that on an occasional basis when it is offered and he is in the mood. One of these days he will get caught out but he has gotten away with it so far.

Totting-up rules mean that they are added up from the date of the alleged offence, not the date he was convicted. Cruel but the law.

I saw a strange sort of van the other evening on my way home. White transit with a great big dome on top which looked like it was housing some sort of camera. It was parked up on the hard shoulder of the motorway which was conned-off with chaps working on the verge.

Any ideas what this may have been other than their ride back to the depot?
