James May and the Caspian Sea Monster
May is having a go driving an Ekranoplan on telly tonight i think 
Amazing piece of kit, had the yanks scared sh1tless in the 80's as they had nothing to match it's capabilities if it had made it into service.

I enjoyed it, but the proposition of the programme was to attempt to find a more efficient way of getting from A-B than relying on the car with its associated congestion.
The Ekranoplan is noisy, uneconomical, would be dangerous in numbers, and has no obvious advantages over the car. The authorities won't let me do 100mph in a capable car, why would they let me do 250mph in something with no brakes
It's major advantage is stealth, which as yet is not high on the list of criteria used to select a commuting machine.
It felt to me as though they set out to make a show and ended up making something completely different.
