Default Running extension lead under carpet?

A quick question from an electrical muppet.

Is doing the above dangerous from an overheating point of view? I was thinking it would be nice and neat and safe for the nursery.

Paul.

is the lead RCD protected and will the lead be at its full length, leaving a coil at one end is worse then running it under a bit of carpet, whats the lead being used for also ?

Just don't overload it and it will be fine. You'll have a noticeable lump under the carpet though.

It would be much better to run it round the skirting board, either use cable clips to fix it in place or use trunking. The D-Line stuff is supposed to be pretty good and available in many different colour and shapes to match the decor. (D-line offering Cable Trunking, Decorative Trunking and PVC Trunking )

It's basically a 2 bar extension lead, not sure if it's RCD protected, how do I find out? It will have a lamp and baby monitor on it.

I was going to remove a strip of underlay so it sits between underlay and gripper.

Will be fine with that load on it. The lamp would be 60W maximum I guess, and the baby monitor is going to be more or less the same so 120W through a cable that should be able to supply 3000W. It won't be getting warm.

Just don't go plugging several heaters into it!

Cheers for that. As you say, it's going to be a fairly low load.

Where in the room are you running it, is it across a traffic area or round the edges?
I'd be concerned about wear on it if it was being walked on.

Yeah I know what you mean but the carpet will take more hammer then the actual lead underneath,
the only reason I asked about the circuit being rcd protected is because its hidden but it wouldnt take much to damage it really.

Would cutting into the floor board to make a groove for it be a silly idea?

At that load level you could make a 5A extension of your own, using (1mm) 3-core cable. As long as it plugs in, you aren't into NICEIC territory, as it's not a fixed installation.

Be very careful that its fixed down and can't ride up onto the grippers and get punctured
